I got SCHOOLED but had a blast

Last weekend was the last two tournaments of the year for my Club...

one was on Sturgeon Bay and the other on the Menominee River... both WORLD CLASS smallie fisheries... well luck would have it a cold front moved thru on Friday and kept on coming thru all weekend... so MY fishing was extremely slow.. but here is the awsome part... I got to fish with some AMAZING smallie fishermen... I learned so much... I learned I was using the wrong equipment  :o I should have been using spinning gear with my tubes rather than a baitcaster... I tried the spinning reel but it just didn't feel right... but I still managed a decent 2lb fish... while my boater landed over 18# sack!!! I was VERY glad to witness that.. and I learned alot

then Sunday I went to the river with the mindset I got on Saturday... only problem was the boater Sunday didn't fish ANYTHING like the guy on Saturday, saturday was slowwwwwwww Sunday the guy fished a lot faster  ;D  So there went that idea how the window... SO I figured to heck with it.. lets have some fun... so I started throwing a drop shot... I had only fished with a drop shot ONCE BEFORE.. but I caught a fish so what the heck...  I hooked onto a BEAUTIFUl 2.12# smallie... he ended up with one that was almost 3# but unfortunately the smallies wanted SLOW and we didn't give them that... the winning bag went over 18# again on Sunday.. it was awsome seeing those guys pulling those hogs out... of course I wished it was ME doing it.. but you can only work with what you have to work with and getting mad isn't going to help... I lost probably 10 jigs due to snagging up and ran out of them. it was VERY snaggy on that river but it was fun!!!

I WOULD say I can't wait for next year... but I am moving to Georgia this January... so I will HOPEFULLY be able to apply some of my new skills down there on them big ole fish...

and to cap this off.... I came in 9th out of 16 for the year standings... while not a stellar performance... not too shabby for a guy that was in a TERRIBLE slump right up intil the last three tournaments!

It sounds like a very worthwhile weekend. If you had been able to call the shots Sunday, you may have finished in the money. You were able to learn from both the good and bad example. Keep up the good work.

Good luck with your Georgia move. I've spent a little time there, and like the people and the fishing very much. They do talk funny... ;)

naaaa  he didn't backboat me... he was trying as hard as I was to catch fish... he just wasn't as experienced at smallie fishing as the guys that got limits...  live and learn... no harm no foul... I hold no ill will towards the guy... he is realy a nice guy...
