We got there on Friday morning and setup camp. This is one beautiful lake.
We saw some interesting rock layering. This is usually underwater
Here we are just leaving the marina
Waterway to Heavan
We headed out with the intention of catching some bass. The water was very very low, 67-69 degrees and very clear. Shanman said it was about 20 feet higher when he was here last year in late summer. We figured the reaction bite would be hot so we started out throwing things like spinnerbaits, crankbaits, chatterbaits and the like. Nothing...not even a follower.
We then headed up to the northern most part of the sac arm to see what we could see. We saw huge trout and bass up where the sac comes into the lake but nothing was biting.
The first day of fishing went very slowly. We were seeing bass everywhere but couldn't get them to bite. We tried everything in our arsenal and only ended up with two bass the first day. Both on soft plastics.
First fish of the trip
Shanman also caught us some dinner when he hooked into this little keeper. Caught him while trolling a threaded worm near sac river.
The second day was much better as we finally figured out what we were doing wrong. As we started fishing weightless we instantly started putting numbers in the boat. Slow slow slow was the key.
Most of the bass we caught looked like this
1-1.5 pounders. This lake is overrun with them. The big fish are there. It's just a matter of getting your bait in front of them before it is gobbled up by a dink.
We also did some downrigging for trout. A small brown trout colored broke-back rapala was the key for the trout.
Shanmans nice trout

Biggest fish of the day
What happens when you don't push on your rod tip well enough when putting it together
While downrigging for trout we had quite an interesting experience. One that I will probably never forget. We were just sitting quietly in the boat when we both heard this very audible whoosh whooosh sound coming up behind us. We turn around in time to see this huge bald eagle swoop down 20 feet behind our boat and ****** at a trout. He missed the trout but proceded to circle the boat 4 times before taking a rest up in a nearby tree. I fumbled for the camera and only managed to get this one decent pic. The others were pretty fuzzy.
What a way to end the day
The third day we only had a few hours to fish so we went back to the spot that we had most of our success with the day before. The fish were not there so we moved on.
We were fishing some flooded trees when I hooked into our biggest fish 2.0 lbs even
Not huge I know but it was a blast to catch. We saw about 3 smaller fish that were following him up and ended up with one of those as well.
Then on the way out we stopped at this point and I got this one. He went a whopping 1.3 lbs
All in all it was an amazing trip. Finding that big bite never happened but we had a great time fishing for numbers.
Titelinez!!!
