Me and a friend of mine went to lake this afternoon and did pretty good! We had the topwater bite on for a while and then started catching with lipless cranks. We caught 8 bass in all and also lost a few.

Average size was around 3lbs. and biggest a 7.1lber which was caught on Zara Spook. Great fun!

Average fish:

You seem to have a realy high weight average for the bass where you live. Or maybe your just useing tactics that catch you big fish. Anyway seemed like a great day. Those are some nice bass and great photos.

I'm using larger baits so that get's your average size up. We are doing well with Lucky Craft LVR D-10's and LV Max 500's. Sammy's in the 115 to 128 size and other large topwaters. With those larger topwater baits the average size we catch is 2.5 to 3.5lbs. but occasionally we do get some some dinks but alot less then if we were using small baits. The fish want big baits at the moment which is fine with me.

Those are some pretty healthy looking Bass.  :)

Way to go Daniel 8-)!!!

He he he! Big baits rule!!!!

No fishing for me these days :(

We have the worst heatwave since 2003, right now is 3.30am and the temperature is still 93F... Forget about fishing during daytime, it's impossible  >:((highs around 110 - 115F)... It's supposed to get cooler by the weekend (highs "only" around 98), hopefully it will stay bearable then....

I think I kind of shy away from the realy big baits basically because im scared of getting skunked when I use them. I know with the baits I throw I always will catch a fish. Its just I often catch about 3 fish of around a pound and about two bigger 2-3 pound fish(Refering to when I fish for largemouth bass only). When I go fishing I dont spend a whole day on the lake. I usually spend around 2-3 hours fishing. I also have been going fishing almost every day recently. Every two to three times I go out I seem to get a pretty big bass(3.5+ pounds). I used to have an even worse problem. Id catch about 10 dinks of about 8 inches and about 2 decent fish. Now the size of my fish has gone up and it seems I am catching more good size fish (3+ pounds). My average fish used to be around about 1 pound. However in the last few weeks my average size fish is probably over 2 pounds. The thing with bigger baits is you often catch much less fish. "Fish Criss" has a HUGE weight average for bass fishing. His average fish is probably around 9-10 pounds throwing bigger baits. However he often goes out for a whole day and only catches about 2 fish. Sometimes he goes out a whole day and doesent catch anything.( not calling you a bad fisherman if you happen to read this fish chris by saying you often catch nothing. I understand you go specifically for monster bass and dont even bother trying for anything under 10 pounds.). What im saying is your average weight goes up but your number of bass goes way down. I just realy hate going out fishing and not catching anything.

Use 2 rods, one with your normal baits and one with bigger lures!!! You can catch those small ones even on big baits if they're biting. I caught a couple yesterday evenig that where the same size as my LC Sammy 128! ;)
