7/03/07--One 5 lb topwater Bass

Featured Replies

Went to my former boss's pond and tried a few new baits and an old topwater bait I haven't used in a long time.  Had heavy cloud cover following some heavy rain the last few days(thank God) with a slight breeze and temps in the lower 80s.  It rained a little while I was there too.

Got two bites, both on the Tank topwater, one a 1 lber and then the 5 lber from the corner of the dam in shallow water.  The 5 lber came off some stickups and sucked the popper in.

Nice fish lightning.  And talking about De ja vue....  About 7pm (same day as yours) I caught one about 1 lb on a R.trap.  I tied on a Rapala topwater, Gold with blk top and caught one 6lbs.  I swear it was identicle to yours.  I'm trying to post it but I forgot how to transfer pictures.....

Nice big head like allways Dan! Nothing beats topwater strikes! Is that a Gary Yamamoto Sugoi popper?

Thanks guys.

T-rig:  No, it's a Tiemco Bass Mania TANK 50 popper.  I do have a couple of Sugois too.

Fish that size on top is what it's all about,....Whoooosh

Cool lure, I think I would switch out the hooks for something a little bigger but those seemed to have worked just fine ;)

Nice fish, Dan.  You know how to find 'em.  I enjoy the top waters as well.  Would like them better if I ever pulled out a 5 lbr.  Bet that was fun.

NOthing like catching big bass on topwater baits 8-)  Hopefully I get out to a few ponds this weekend to give it a shot.  Nice fish and the tackle...sigh...makes me want to break out the wallet.

Thanks again y'all.

Corey, life is short...... ;)

LBH:  I did substitute a Mustad Triple Grip hook for the front hook but the same size.
