Near perfect fishing environment...

Featured Replies

I just recently got the OK from the landowner behind my property to let me fish his farm pond. So yesterday I take off walking the short 50 or so yards down to the bank. I'm noticing the surrounding environment. The water has a light layer of algae floating in some areas. There's a small land mass in the fresh water end of the pond with good thick cover that touches the water. There's a couple of trees around the bank that have fallen into the edge of the water. The pond itself is on the edge of an open field where it meets a tree-line. In my opinion, it doesn't get much better. I caught 4 bass within 15 minutes of being there, all between 1.5-3 lbs. Good, healthy looking fish. The ecosystem in this pond would seem optimum to most anyone that saw it. I only had 1 rod/reel with 1 hook and a pack of avocado finess worms in my pocket. The last fish I hooked which would have been #5 for the day broke my line as I was pulling him out of the water. I was using 8lbs line...and it was kinda old. So I had to call it a day, since he ran off with my ONLY hook.

So I go back down today with 2 hooks, a different pole with fresher 12lbs line and the same pack of worms. Man I was hauling them in like a commercial fisherman. The biggest was every bit of 4lbs and the rest were just barely smaller than it. There's got to be more to this pond than I can imagine. I'll be taking the camera with me the next time so I can show you guys some good ole country pond bass.

Yeah, I know. I was trying to keep the load as light as possible. It was hot today and all. This is why I kick myself for not buying a tackle bag instead of a hard box. They're a LOT easier to manuever when you have to walk a little ways. I forgot to mention the little 5 point buck that showed up across the pond and watched me watch him while he feasted on some black berries. Looks like a camera is not ALL I need to take back with me..... ;D
