went out today but only for an hour or so...it was hot, the some hot moved in and it was hot for a while, then it was HOT again   ;D

i caught one fish, 3lbs, but it had this weird "fungus" on its gill plate....it looked to me like a wound with algea growing in it, anyone every seen something like this?

That is probably the uglyest bass I have seen in my life(yes even uglyer than the one in the general bass fishing section posted a week or so ago that had no top lip). I have never seen anything like that before ever. If I were you I would have kept that bass to make sure the disease of fungus from that fish doesent spread to other fish in the lake.

Thats freaky i would be scared if i caught that thing. but nice fish even with that. u shoulda dug out the alage on the sore so mayb it would heal

Not sure what that is either but I caught a bass with some of that stuff growing in a hole on it's lip.

Well I have to admit, that is one BIG UGLY WOUND!  

There is scar tissue that is very pronounced on the edges of the wound. It does not look like

a fungal or parasitic infection. The wound was more than likely caused by a predator. The algae

is not a bad occurance, it is probably doing more good than harm by keeping the wound clean.

I know it sounds strange, but this is an common occurance on turtles and other creatures. It

does look like it is healing.  The fish will always have that nasty looking scar. Other than

the obvious wound, the fish looks to be in good health!

So RedTorpedo, you were right on the money with your diagnosis.

thanks, i figure maybe a turtle got a hold of him maybe...or...could that be an infected hook wound?  i use cranks alot and could have been a rear hook got him there or something...thanks for the info tho

That bass is not ugly at all but has a wound that seems to be healing. I've caught bass with very similar wounds after the spawn. The wounds were allways on the bottom lip and some also had algae growing in it.

If I caught something like that out of Catt Creek I would say definately Lampray but I doubt there are lampray in a pond like the one you fished.
