Stickmarsh/Farm 13

Featured Replies

On 2-4, "Avid" and myself headed out on the Farm with high expectations based on the past several day's weather conditions. We were greeted by a slight breeze from the SE, fairly clean water, and temps in the high 70's.

Plastics and Traps accounted for a good portion of our catch on this day. South end of the Farm was where we stayed all day, but I'm pretty sure there are still some fish in several other places right now.

After losing 2 brand new Chrome/Blue Traps in a short period of time, I decided to put on a funky looking green and orange Trap that was given to me by someone because it was so ugly AND I didn't care if I lost it.LOL

After less than 5 minutes of casting it, I felt what I thought was the familar feeling of the Trap deflecting off of a stump. Actually, I'm pretty sure that it was just the fish sucking it in. Maybe it deflected off the stump first, and then the fish sucked it in? Awhh..who cares at this point!!LOL The fight was on, but ended quickly as the truely big fish don't fight much at all. She made one 20 foot run and then gave up the fight. She was FULL of spawn and weighed 10 1/2 pounds on the Boga Grip. It's moments like this where I just sit back and think how lucky I am to be able to call this place my home lake. Sometimes we tend to take things for granted.

Anyways, Avid's big fish was no slouch. It tipped the Boga at 7 pounds even. We totaled out with 49 fish to the boat. Not great, numbers wise, but we still have a couple more weeks before things get really fired up.

Wind direction/speed is everything on this body of water. You can VERY accurately predict the fishing from the other side of the country by watching wind forecasts. Anything from a Northerly direction will ruin the water clarity AND the fishing. You can NOT catch these fish in muddy water. My experience is that you need at least 3 or 4 days of calm or Southerly winds to clear up the South end after strong Northerly winds. If the water is dirty, Garcia is an excellent backup plan.

See you out there!!!

Forty-nine fish!

That's fantastic.

And Avid caught one. That's great.

Keep those stories coming as we watch the temperatures slowly climb back into the higher levels.

Where are the pics?

Wow! There are about 12,198 other members that wish they had a story to tell right now.

Most of us are enjoying the middle of winter. Great post, we're all looking forward to the next installment:

Steve and Avid's Great Adventure.
