Lake Russell

Headed down with an old friend on Saturday morning for a few days of fun fishing.  No competition, just plain fun.

I knew there might be some rough weather that evening, but didn't know we'd be sitting through a tornado watch.  The first wave passed through to the north.  The second one snuck down and got us.

We sat through 10 minutes of the hardest hail storm I've ever witnessed.

It flooded our campsite (we stayed at Calhoun Falls SP), but the tent held up.  Just a little wet inside.

After the hail storm, the skies cleared (for a while), so we went fishing.

We did get drenched in a nice five minute cloudburst, but overall it was a nice evening.  Calm water, the fish weren't biting all that well though.

Sunday morning it was a bit chilly and windy, but the skies were clear.

We hit a couple of spots up the lake, then worked our way back down.  I was dragging a lizard when this thing hit.  I thought it was a catfish at first.  Hit near the bank, then headed for deep water.

Water was still a bit cool, so the bite just wasn't what it could have been.  We did catch fish, but nothing to write home about.  That place is full of fat fish though.  They're all meaner than hungry dog too.

We know how to eat well!  ;)

A great place to stay, $22 a night, clean bath houses and friendly people.

And you try and blame me when you plan a trip to some good fishin water and it turns on ya.    ;D

Guess we'll just have to hit the river and throw the secret weapon on ultralights.  I know we can catch a ton of fish that way.   ;)

Man I don't understand?  Your having terrible luck with the weather this year.  You stuck it out and caught fish, that's the main thing.  Better trips are in your future, I just know it. ;)

BTW, I got my coupons, thanks man!  The will be put to good use. 8-)

Man I have heard of giving a fish a little peck, but are you slippin that bass the tongue?

EWWWWWW!!!!!! ;D

When you spend as much time at campgrounds as I do, you learn to appreciate the cleanliness of a bath house.  I've seen some doozies over the last couple of years.

I figured you were talking about the "other" kind of bath house.

LOL

Is that hail 2-3 inches in diameter, or is that illusion do to the camera angle?

Biggest I picked up was just a bit bigger than a good aggie marble.

Saw some golf-ball sized stuff at the ramp when we launched.
