Bass just tease me

Featured Replies

So, I wen tot a local lake and under good advice came to a nice area to fish from shore.  I was there to test out my jig setup.  True to the advice there was a nice 5lb/7lb bass sitting in about 5' water over some submerged weed and rock and right beside her was a small male.  Couple guys much more experience than me couldn't catch them and left.  I tried for about 1 hour and nothing.

I would cast in my jig behind her and she would hear it and move, I would cast again near her and she would move again.  I even ran my crank so close it hit her in the side a few times, she simply looked at it and moved again.  The male did nothing and mostly moved away.  When the big female was still again she sat facing me directly and simply watched me.  Eventually they both moved into deeper water.  I tried cranks, jigs, spinners, worms, brush hog etc.  Nothing would interest her at all.

If I am fishing from the shore where I can see the fish and have no hope of catching her what hope do I have if I am fishing  90% where I am not even sure fish are holding?

Any ideas on what was going on here? :'(

So I saw jig and crank. If shes big she might have wanted larger "food" you should also try a swimbait. Or spinner to make her mad!!

another good technique is to cast out by the bed let your bait settle and walk away free spool. Wait a few min and then work the bait back. If you can see them they can see you. A drop shot can work good for this to twitch it in place.

X2

Aweful hard to catch if they know you are there and what you are doing!

I would drop shot it first.  Remeber, you dont always have to go subtle when drop shotting.  Beef up your rig and throw on a big soft jerk bait or big senko.  Put it in the bed and eventually she'll suck it up.  Another good techique is to get a swimbait, I prefer Storm soft swimbaits,  and let it sink down into the bed.  Storm swimbaits sink nose first so the tail will stay off the bottom.  Then once it's resting in the bed give it a few twitches to get the tail moving.  I like blue gill or bass colors for this.  It looks just like their trying to feed up on the eggs.  Good luck man

Wow... I never thought of that.. I definetly will try that next time I encounter a similiar situation.
