It's about time (Ontario Bass)

Featured Replies

Well, I couldn't take it anymore so I went out to my Grandparents pond for some early season bassin' (Plus, I wanted a picture for the Fish Across America thread ;)). Let me tell you, I'm still smiling. Today I threw a T-rigged Powerbait Power Worm (Camo), 3/8 oz Terminator Jig (Black/Pumpkin/Chartreuse) with Paca Craw (Summer Craw) trailer, LC RC 3.5 (MJ Ghost Minnow) crank and the producer.............a Salty Super Fluke (Silver Rainbow) rigged weedless/weightless.

3.1 lbs.

I did catch 1 dink on the Terminator Jig, but the Fluke was the definite producer. Also, I was throwing the Fluke with my new Saros 2500 Shimano Crucial combo and Im very impressed. The Saros is smooooth ;).

WATERS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY APPLICATION OF REGULATIONS

Question Re: Private Property

I own a large parcel of land with a good sized spring-fed pond on it, the pond drains off of my land into a near-by river. I know there are fishing the pond, do I need a licence to fish in the pond and do the seasons apply on my property?

Answer:

Because your pond has an outflow the laws requiring a licence and the various fishing seasons would apply to your pond. The Ontario Fishery Regulations, which contain the rules for sport fishing in Ontario, apply to all water in the province with the exception of National Parks, waters that are licenced under an aquaculture licence and waters that occur on private lands that meet all of the following conditions:

The waters are not on a regional flood plain,

The waters lie wholly on privately owned land,

The waters are not connected to natural waters,

The waters contain water from run-off, springs, ground water or water pumped from a stream or lake; AND

The waters have been artificially created.

If the pond meets all of the list above the fish must then come from a licenced aquaculture facility or a licenced commercial fish operation; they cannot be caught by sport-fishing and transferred to the pond.

My Grandparents pond meets all of the listed requirements. Just FYI. ;)

Anyway........................ ;D

Doesn't really matter, I assume the fish where released anyway. I'm sure you catch the odd bass "unintentionally" when fishing for walleye. :) If the fish were kept, then I fully agree with you. ;)

Nice fish HOB! 8-)

Thanks T-rig! Oh yeah, the fish were released immediately. They always are! (I'm a C&R guy. Though, I will keep the odd walleye.....during the season of course ::)) But, legally the seasons and limits do not apply to this pond. This pond is actually where I learned to fish and how I got "hooked" when I was a child. The pond used to be filled with trout but some snapping turtles ended that :o. Then, some years ago my Grandpa read that stocking bass (and walleye) in ponds is usually more successful, so that's how it all began .

nice fish!!

Thanks Mrs. Matstone. The thumb feels great! ;D My Grandparents land is a great place to go and fish (I couldn't ask for anything more) . It's nice to have a place so close where I can try out new baits/equipment and techniques. I know that I am EXTREMELY lucky to have such a place.

Thanks again!
