11 days fishing-Only 7 bass??

Featured Replies

I went to a small lake in New Hampshire for vacation and fished 3-4 hrs a day over an 11 day period. In the entire 11 days I only caught 7 nice bass.  The local bait shop said the bite was good and confirmed that what I was using would work.  I was fishing primarily senko type worms but between by son and others we tried everything including crawl fish without success.  I'm trying to figure out why.  There was a lot of heavy rain while we were there and apparently there has been a lot of rain in the area this summer. The water temperature started out at 79 degrees and dropped to about 73 degrees before I left. I tried fishing deep as well as the usual bass structure areas but it never improved.  I couldn't even locate fish on the fish finders.  Any thoughts on what might cause this type of draught?

Sounds like a lot of weather, must have turned them off.

When bass are baitfish orientated, soft plastic don't work.

I have no idea why you didn't switch to something else.

Jerkbaits or some other lipless crankbait would probably

be the answer.

A Slug-Go, Floating Rogue, Norman Fat Boy or Countdown

Rapala might have been a better choice.

You mentioned that you fished 3 to 4 hours a day and that you tried everything including live bait.

Maybe you were just out at the wrong time of day.

I have the best luck at sunrise, with sundown a close second.

Or maybe the cold front caused a case of lockjaw in the bass.

Or maybe the guy at the baitshop didn't know what he was talking about and the lake actually stinks.

Tough to say for certain...but when I'm fishing and the bite is unusually tough, I switch to light spinning gear and downsized baits, and I try to concentrate on fishing slow, and feeling everything on the bottom.

Better luck next time!

That is what I was thinking.  If you were fishing middle of the afternoon, you may have missed the prime eating times.
