I went out today with only one rod and one bait, with one thing on my mind. Learn to use a bait caster. I headed out with my Shimano Citica 200E rigged with a Rapala DT Crankbait. After twenty minutes or so of practice i felt pretty confident. So as I'M reeling in my last practice cast Bam I get nailed and begin to fight the first fish on the Bait caster. After that seemed natural. So I headed out and had a fairly good day, landed about six fish tournament size (1-3LBS). Lost two really nice fish one of which may have been over 8LBS!! Overall it was nice to be out and finally get a good handle on using a Baitcaster and starting to learn how to use Crankbaits.

congrats on the new tech. Once you have it down, you will never want to go back. the  precision an distance you get are awesome.

I know he enjoyed it, he's only 2 and obsessed with fishing. He goes nuts if you try and take his fishing rod away from him when its bed time. ;D He would sleep with it if he could. Thanks for the responses..

Congrats! That's what I do also if I want to learn a new thing. Limit myself to that one thing. Otherwise I get too caught up in catching instead of learning. Good job! Cute kid too. Just wait until he gets his first baitcaster fish.

Heck, the wife and I could never even get them to go to the mountains with us. Staying near the house to throw outlaw parties while we were gone was more important.

Before anyone chastizes us for leaving young children home alone they were grown, out of the house, then moved back in before we ever left for the mountains.

Did you have four girls? I couldn't imagine having a boy that didn't wanna go fishing. When I was a kid I couldn't stand to be couped up inside Id go out fishing ,camping or hunting whenever I could.

Sounds like a great trip.  My dad taught me and we fish togather every month and I've taught all four of my kids. At least 3 of them love the outdoors and are tired of being cooped up this winter just like there dad!
