Tournament Advice

Featured Replies

I am in my first bass tournament on Friday in the new IHSA Bass Fishing. I am very excited and nervous at the same time. I am going to be fishing with a partner and we got locations and techniques pretty much down. But I was wondering if there was little pieces of advice that you would like to share. I will be fishing back of the boat. Any tips or advice? Thanks!

I fish a lot of Tournaments as a co angler, I just always try to do something a little different then the person up front, if this is a team event try to just change up  from your partner, different retrieve speeds and different baits or colors  till you figure out what works best, if an individual event I always try to do the opposite of what the boater is doing. Good luck hope you do well

Fish baits you're confident in and have caught fish on rather then trying to conform to the conditions and lake. You can find a suitable spot for most applications.

Have fun be safe and make sure the fish measures. This time of year with females full of eggs make sure you flip the fish. I've said it here before I've seen a fish measure almost one inch longer on one side then the other. I wouldn't have believed it but I saw it with my own eyes. So if it's close flip it and make sure the officials due to. You might also want to measure a fish that's close again before you weigh in. I've heard tons of stories of fish shrinking.
