Great day, new PB for 09....twice

Took a walk today along the C&O Canal, because they were calling for storms so did not want to take the boat out. It proved to be a good thing, after a slow start was able to get into some good bass. Including two 21in LM, this beats my PB for 09 which stood at 20in. Also added a 17in and a 15in, and the usual dinks. The one picture was taking by a passerby walking the canal, was not lucky on the other. All fish were caught on senko's and up tight to submerged trees.

    Great fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hope you catch many more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

very nice

Best if luck the rest of the season

Nice job on the PB you and Basser are doing quite well in the canals lately. Basser89 was telling me that you thought you had seen him but was probably me at Little Seneca. People say we look alike so I might have to get cosmetic surgery.

That water looks great!  Nice fish, congrats on PB!

MskSlyr, yeah the canals have been pretty good to me this year. Not having to much luck everywhere else right now. Still haven't got a good plan for fishing weeds and deeper water. Before this year I had one fish over 20 inches, 23 1/2 inch. This year I have 3, all out of the canal.

The water is getting a little rough the weeds are taking over the places were I have been getting my better fish. Have to change my approach to get down to the fish.

Sounds like you are stepping up your game then, good to hear you are doing well. I know in a lot of the areas that I hit the only option when it gets real heavy like you described are topwater and heavy jigs. Had a similar situation with a real heavy weed flat the other weekend with some good success also. Good luck.

I second the topwater suggestion. Take a frog like a Spro or a Rage Tail. If the grass is really thick you can fish them all day long.

Where are you fishing the canal? I have fished the river near the Angler's Inn and always looked at the widewater where the canal opens up into a small lake and wanted to fish it from a kayak or something. If I'm not mistaken you need an MD license to fish the canal but a VA license will work on the river, correct?

I was trying a Rage Toad over the grass but was not getting any looks, and tried a jig/craw around the laydowns also. This has worked on other trips, actually the first 20in this year was on the Rage Toad, but this trip got nothing until I broke down and went with the senko. Been relying to much on the senko so was trying to stay away from it but when all else kept failing I went back to it.

Dan, the two parts of the I fish is at Dickerson, and Pennyfield Lock. These fish were from Pennyfield. And you are correct you would need a MD license to fish the canal, a VA is okay for the Potomac.
