Never ready for the big one

Featured Replies

went fishing this morning... cloudy and rainy.... went to a spot I've had good luck before.... threw a dropshot with a watermelon senko..

but my other rod and reel was sitting in the grass, so I was gonna set it up on my tackle box.......it was getting really wet......

while I was holding the reel......wham......I barely held on to the rod... it was a monster, but by the time I got my composure, she had already went down deep in the moss and got off the hook.........

Did manage to catch a few nice bass on a s.bait and a fluke..... but still dreaming of the one that got away............ :-[

You were fishing with 2 rods at the same time?

Two things I try to always do.... Set the hook like it's the last fish I'll ever catch and expect to catch a fish on every cast!..... Although, I get caught sleeping every now and again.

Texas, all I can say is what the baseball coaches once told me:

"Be ready to play for every pitch."

It has happened to me.  Slow day and you start to day dream or look around or fool around with some tackle and "wham!" she takes the bait, runs fast, and by the time you get your composure, she is gone.

I try to remember those words...."Be ready to play for every pitch."

Once that bait hits the water, you have to be ready, even on casts that do not end up where intended.

Good lesson to learn and I know you will be ready after every cast in the future.  :)

Don't feel bad, I'd venture to say we all have lost good sized fish. Mine wrapped me around a stickup..easily the biggest bass I ever hooked..lol
