Found Lost Crankbait!

I found my favorite crankbait!

When I last fished my friend's farm pond about four months ago, I did an Iaconelli imitation of running up and down the bank and flipping the rod back and forth as I tried to land one of the big ladies.

Of course, she broke off and swam away with my favorite Bandit 200 chartreuse with blue back crankbait.

This was one of my favorite of all time crankbaits. I have caught lots of bass on it and I was sick that I had lost it due to my stupidity.

But walking along the bank this morning, about 20 yards from where I had lost her, there was the crank in the mud.

The hooks were gone, but I knew it was my crankbait.

I spoke to the farmer's wife, and she told me that I was the only one to fish the pond this year so it had to be my crankbait.

Can you imagine that? The bass swims off with your favorite crankbait four months ago and you stumble upon it when walking the bank.

One side has its yellow color worn off, and there is some "rust" on the tail, but otherwise, the crank is in perfect condition.

I can't wait to put on new hooks and start fishing her again.

And yes, I caught some bass.  17 in all.  Five over five pounds.  Plus three 8-plus pound flathead catfish.

Great day!!!!!!!  :)   :)   :)   :)

Outstanding, I just love a hoppy ending!  (wiping a tear from my eye)

That's awesome you got you favorite crank back.Sounds like you also had a great day fishing.Yellow cats sure are good dipped in milk, rolled in cornmeal, and fried in oil.

I know exactly what you mean. From time to time I would just rip my rods forward when casting and all you would hear was a snap. I myself am very careless. The last couple of years, I was losing 5-10 baits per trip (lots of money to replace!!!!!). I started paying more attention to my rod and line when casting. I think within the last year I have lost 3 baits. I don't blame myself, just the dam trees.

had similar experience, set the hook on a 3 or 4 lb'er,,broke off,,,3 min later, she surfaces about 20 yards off the side of the boat and spits my lure at me,,,,i just told her thanks,,,i was using a pop'r, glad to get it back,,,lol

That's funny, I had a similair situation about 4 years ago. I was fishing a lake in Michigan had a savage hit set the hook and nothing. Lost a crankbait. Latter that day fishing the same bay I hooked up again and landed a 18 inch Northern Pike. Low and behold this beast had the crank I lost eariler in the day in the side of his mouth. I retrieved it and released him. What are the odds? ::)

along the same line, I lost a mann's crankbait in a set of trees. I could see it hanging there with no way to get it....fishing from the bank. It happened about a month ago. I see it everyweekend when i go fishing, just hanging there, taunting me. This past Sunday, I looked over and it was gone. I figured some other fisherman found it. At one point as I was cranking in a different bait, I look down and there it is. Have no idea how it got out of the trees, nor how it happened to float over to my favorite spot.  ;D

Same kind of thing happened to me.  I was fishing my friends private neighborhood lake with his permission.  I was fishing the opposite end of the lake from his house with a jerkbait, I snagged it on a submerged log the I always find fish on.  Now this was in late January or early February,  I go back in April and find my bait lodged in the mud under his boat on his property.  I was excited even though it wasn't anything special like a LC.

friend's pond? i gotta get new friends >:(.

that's cool that you got your bait back.

BTW, why were the hooks missing? do they rust out that fast?

Pretty cool Sam. Funny, but the same thing happened to me and one of MY Bandits at the little pond off rt 301where you and I met. Mine was a tennessee shad 200. Found it after a month or so. Had hooked a nice one and my line popped at the not. A little rust at the tie, but still in my arsenal.

this has happened to me twice. Once was when a bigger fish broke me off on a tree while throwing a topwater. Later that day I found the topwater floating in the water.

Another time I was fishing a small pond under some power lines when a long cast that went too high got caught in the power lines. I had to cut the line and I assume eventually the line finally gave way and the spinnerbait dropped into the pond. Probably 6 months later my fishing buddy and I were fishing the same lake when he snagged my spinnerbait with his crankbait. I was totally surprised when he pulled it in.

The hooks and o-rings were missing.

Probably rusted away.

The crank looks good as new, even with the teeth marks on it.

Will give it a try, soon.

Great stories.  Thanks to everyone for sharing.  ;D

That's awesome that you found your fav crank, but...

I wanna fish that pond!!!  ;)

I lost a rod catfishing on a local lake off a dock (Lake of the Ozarks). A week later I get a phone call from my Dad of all people (doesn't fish) and says he just happened to take his daughter fishing and they caught a fishing pole and do I want it?

I say, is it a quantum rod with a zebco platinum reel on it?

He says "How did you know?"

Weird man. I'd never even fished that dock before(or since).

Would his daughter happen to be your sister ?
