PB Pickerel, Good Bass

went out on the lake yesterday. had a pretty good day all in all.

when we first got on the lake, i tossed my yozuri jerkbait over and started trolling as we were on our way to the other end. well not even 5 or 6 minutes into it, i hooked up with a bass. tiny one, like 12" or less, but pretty cool it was so instantaneous.

then, the real kicker, after that happened, i started trolling some more and within 5 minutes hooked up again! this time it was a good fish.

i had nearly 2/3 of my spool out for trolling, and this bass made one helluva jump that far out. it was really cool. fought it all the way to the boat, really fun fight.

3lbs 4oz:

then we fished for a little over 2 more hours without even a bite. it was bogus.

we decided to move to the other side of the lake where it was just a giant field of dying lilies (they were a few inches under the surface and all wilted up). water over here was pretty shallow, 2-3 feet.

shortly after fishing around here (tossing a t-rigged trick stick), i hooked up with a fighter. it smashed my worm right as it hit the water, and put up one nice fight. i figured it was a pickerel from the way it was fighting.

turned out to be my biggest pickerel (although earlier in the spring i hooked a MASSIVE pickerel from this lake, that could have easily went 4lbs).

21", 2lbs even (please excuse my looking like a homeless person/crack addict in this pic ;D):

this sucker had a fresh bluegill in its gut. you could clearly see the outline of it, though it didn't really show up well in the pics:

after this i ended up catching 3 more bass (all around a foot long), and my dad got a smaller pickerel about 14 inches or so.

it was good to get out there and catch a few for a change... :)

nice fish and nice pics.

what size is that boat if you dont mind me asking?

Nice Dave! I thought you just watched sucky youtube videos all day long!

I'd like to catch a Pickerel sometime.

thanks guys.

14' jon.

and yeah, pickerel are way fun to catch. they fight so hard! i hooked a 19" pickerel last summer that i coulda swore was a 6 or 7 lb bass until i saw it. not to mention the 4+ lber i hooked this spring. i brought that sucker right up to the boat and even had my hand under its belly, but in my attempt to lift it, the hook came out (they always seem to do this w/ pickerels) and as i lifted, it slid right out of my hand. this thing was over 2.5 feet, easily.

X-cellent fish and photo's
