Flooded Vegetation

Featured Replies

Went camping at don pedro this weekend. We generally do good when we camp over there. We didn't bring the boat because people always want to go on and it gets stressful. But anyway, with all this snow and rain, the lake has almost filled to full pool, so all the grass on the banks is underwater. The last 2 trips the lake was at a lot lower level so it was rocky, and pretty good. I caught 2 5 pounders on one trip. But this time that vegetation was skrewy. I didn't catch a single fish.Any tips for fishing it?tried spinnerbaits crankbaits worms and even swimming a jig

well i was watching classic patterns on TV the guy said that even wen its flooded the fish will still relate to the original bank if that helps at all but what it sounds like is the cold front prob kept them out in deeper water ware you could no get to them without a boat and it also makes a diff on the wind if any,was it blowing at you or away from you

When the water comes up the fish will be relating to the old shore line but will be suspended higher in the water column. They do this mainly because of comfort because the thermocline has changed. If the water becomes more muddy because of the influx of water the fish will move shallow. If the rising water is a slow process the fish have time to adjust and will relate to the older shore giving that the water clarity has not changed.

Tom and I found the biggest fish (largemouth)

relating to shade and heavy cover in less than

3' of water with Pickwick flooded last week. In

six hours of flipping over a two day period, we

probably caught over 50 fish, mostly 3-4 lbs.

;D ;D ;D
