Got Skunked

Featured Replies

I got Skunked again. Not even a nibble . I tried the tips RW posted some time back about using Senko's with absolutely no luck at all. Fished for 3 hours and nothing. I thought I was fishing slow but I guess not. Its frustrating having only 1 day to go fishing and to continue to get nothing.  I went fishing at a lake that has a tremendous amount of vegetation and did it from shore as i do not have a boat. Very frustrating, but I ain't quitting you!!

Just keep at it. What is the water like? What lures and colors are you using besides the senko? Do you wade in to access better angles?

I have not tried wading out beyond shore yet. I have tried different lures in the past, BPS worms dark colors, POP R chartreuse, Rapala original and Mepps Aglia. Had the only strike and catch with the Mepps. I think my main problem is I'm still new to this and don't know what to use or when. oh yeah, I have tried spinner and buzzbait to no avail. Again not sure when to use or where. :o

I believe in the post RW says if you fish several times to no avail, you need to find new water, you may want to take his advice.

If you were to give more information about where you are fishing (like location, water clarity, type of vegetation, etc), more helpful information would come your way.

You are geting hundreds, if not thousands, of years worth of experienced advice from this site. Don't give up, once you "get it" things will change. Good luck my friend...

Have you thrown a soft plastic Frog or Toad across that vegetation....

Find out where the fish are. Learn the structure that is in the lake and what structures the fish hang out around.

Ask other fishermen at the same lake where the best places to fish are and what baits they are using and how they are using the baits.

Try different lures with different retrieves. There is always more than one way to work any lure. Do not keep doing the same thing if it is not working.

Thank you guys for responding I really appreciate it. I am not sure how to describe the vegetation. I know Im going to get this wrong but I think it is called Naide? The lake was overrun with Hydrella? but that was taken care of. The water for the most part is clear to slightly stained. The color senko I have been using is watermelon/blk/red. I took my daughter out to the same lake in June and she caught 2 SMB on live worms. There is a sign posted saying that there is an abundance of SMB with no daily limit. I have been fishing off riprap, dock by boat launch, and under cover of trees. I have not fished a frog because I don,t have one yet. Budget is tight and fishing lures not on the "need list" but I do intend to buy some soon. I was fishing there a couple of weeks ago and there was a guy fishing plastic worms and caught 2 Smallies in about 10 min. He was no more than 10 yards away from where i was at. There was no structure that I could see. :-/
