QUESTION

Featured Replies

To bang  on the  sent  subject  some  more .Ive  got  a  question . Being  a smoker  and knowing that nicotine will  turn  fish around in their tracks.  IM thinking  of getting  a  box  of those  thin gloves  a nurse  or doctor wears -  put  them on  to  have  a smoke  take  them off to fish.   Since  you cant allways wash  your  hands  when  out  and about. It would  keep  the  bad  cigg  oders off  but -  after  all this  my  question.   What  about the talkum powder left  on your  hands  would IT be offencive  to the  fish???

THANKS

I smoke...a lot.  Either the fish I'm catching are smokers or they don't care.  We practice quick release too, so they won't drink our beer.

I am a smoker also JD and I wouldn't worry about it.  I think the gloves are a little much.  If you are worried about the smell just use a artificial scent to cover it up. Thats all I do.  I would think the talcum powder would be more offensive to the fish than the smoke.

In the final analysis, you'll have to do what gives you confidence. I know from everything I've read that odors and scent use are topics with widely differing opinions. Some wouldn't fish without scent, others think it makes no difference.

One well-known writer conducted his own tests and found little difference in his catch rates. Another, who is strongly against scent, claims he caught just as many fish after soaking his lures in gasoline, wrapping them in dirty underwear for a week, etc.

I don't think there are any actual FACTS, so we each have to draw our own conclusions.
