TIGER and GORILLA Bass

Featured Replies

Did you all hear about these new bass called tiger bass and gorilla bass? a team of sceintists for 3 years did a cross between a superaggresive male northern strain and a 13+lbs female florida strain to create  hybrid fish which in 27 months grew to 8 pounds in a experimental pond. The gorilla bass is a superagressive northern crossed with a superagressive female. They bight harder and average around 3 pounds they caught 60 gorilla bass in 30 minutes with 2 anglers! The hybrid was crossed with the gorilla 3 years ago and raised in a pond, 3 years and these fish have grown to 8 to 9 pounds and are superaggressive like the gorilla. You can buy these fish to stock in pond but they are not putting them in our local lakes just yet.

You might not be able to tell the difference because they are the same color and exterior as a largemouth but bigger and may more aggressive.

Check in a bassmaster magagzine to find out more.

Sorry Nick,

This story is a year or two old (at least).

I would still like to catch them though.

Somebody wake him up. I think the kid is dreaming.  :o

Yeah Nick,

I read that same article in Bassmaster last week!  This is really EXICTING!  But you might want to go back and re-read the article.  The Bass that you want to fish for are called the

The Tiger and Gorilla Bass are quite the fish also, and I would love to fish for them too.  I tried the email address that was in the magizine, but it isn't good anymore.  ??? Don't know why.  But you can write that guy a letter and he will sell you some of those fish if you have a pond to stock them in.

Glad to see someone else as interested in these fish as I am.

-Best Wishes

We had an article in Bass Journal magazine (when I worked for them) back in 2003 or early 2004 about these fish.

Yeah, that was out close to the end of 2003.  Neat story though.

There are two articles in the newest issue of Bassmaster relating to this. Personaly I think the Tiger bass eliminate the challenge in bass fishing. I understand that it is great for farm ponds when you want to start kids fishing, but I enjoy out smarting the bass to make them bite.

No, I didn't tell Nick to wake up. I was talking to you. The world record was not a Tiger or Guerilla bass.  ::)

Don't think they had "Gorilla" Bass in the 1930's.(When the world-record bass was caught.) ::)

There 's nothing special or fancy about them, I 've bred them for years to stock the lakes located around the city where I live in, besides, the only way to keep the hybridization percentage in 50/50 is by keeping them in an all F1 poupulation, stock them in an all Florida strain or an all Northern strain population and the hybridization percentage drops, after 5 generations of breeding outside the hybridazation they become pure strain again. And no they are not more agressive than regular bass.

I think to many people are spending to much time with their chemestry set trying to make something that they shouldn't mess with. I think someone is trying to figure out a way to grow bass bigger just to beat a record fish. If they mess around enough a 10 lb fish is not going to be considered a tophy anymore. They should have kept florida bass in florida period. The florida bass was the claim to fame and big draw to tourist traffic. It should have stayed that way. Sorry just a touchy subject for me. My question is that when then next state trophy is caught or next record will there be a side note saying that it was a florida fish? I doubt it.

i just get my new issue of bassmaster and they have and article about it you should read it :)

It 's just because it continues to surface, every 5-6 months it appears again.
