Hey guys,

Just wondering if any of you guys have had a "pet bass", and how you went about getting one. There was a topic awile back, and I thought it would be neat. Im thinking calling it a "scientific project" would be a good excuse to get one. Anyways, any info about getting some fry, and how to start and maintain a habitat for them would be apreciated. And how big do you guys think the fish tank would have to be?

We had a 6lb, 2 - 4lb and a 2 lb in a 250 gallon ...keep it clean and treated and keep them fed..They will live for a while. These lived for 3 years before we released them back into a pond.. You will learn alot about them by watching every day!!

When i was really young my brother had cought 2 small bass like 4-5" and we put them in our fish tank. they ate all of our guppies, and grew to big for the tank, so we brought them back to the lake on the next trip.  ;D

A few years ago my son and I kept a small bass (6")in a 20 gal aquarium. As already stated you will definately learn a lot by watching it every day. You can get a good feel for changes in behavior when a cold front comes in and how they relate to the cover in the tank.

We kept ours for about a year and then released it. In that time it probably grew about 3 or 4 inches.

The biggest challenge was going and catching/buying minnows about every other day to feed it.

Good idea. When i am done finishing my boat i am going to buy a nice big tank and get some fry and feed it some trout meat and make a log of actions.

I once had a small perch, a small bass, a crawdad, a creek chub, a tiny pond turtle, and a pond frog in the same tank when I was in college.  This didn't last long.  I had them in a 30 gallon tank that had gravel sticking out of the water for the frog and turtle.  To make a long story short-- the perch and the turtle won.  I would feed them all worms, minnows, and turtle food.  This lasted about 3 months before the perch got real brave and somehow jumped out of the tank between the lid and the air filter and fell behind my desk.  I released the turtle back into a local pond.
