i was out on my boat this past wednesday right aroundn sunrise and there were fish everywhere jumping all over ther place but i couldn't catch anything.  I was just wondering what would be the best lure to fish during the morning like that? i thaught top water buti may of not been fishing it right or something. any suggestions?

What part of the country are you in?  They maybe brim hitting the top of the water. If bass, use a clear topwater bait, and find out what they maybe feeding on to determine size. Let the bait sit for awhile then twitch it a little. 15 sec pause, twitch, 15 sec pause. etc...

This happened to me last year (Mid June). For over an hour bait were crashing the surface. My buddy (3rd time out fishing) was throwing a senko and caught a really nice fish right in the middle of the bait fish. Me being the experienced fisherman thought "I'll show him" and went with a spinnerbait. Nothing. He caught another nice fish. I went to a buzzbait. Nothing. He caught another nice fish. I went to a shallow crankbait. Nothing. He caught another nice fish. I went with a a Pop R. Nothing. He caught another nice fish. I finally went to a senko and killed them. He caught 9 fish and I caught 5 in an hour. The smallest was 15". The largest was a tad over 6lbs. He would have limited out in an hour with over 22lbs (keep in mind it was his 3rd time out bass fishing). Best bag I would have ever seen in my parts. Needless to say I have created a monster. He may be more addicted than I am now. I'm still jealous and a bit awed by the display he put on. Oh yeah, he did it all on an ugly stick combo. Man I hate him. Even though he has bought about 3 more poles and reels since then, everyone still calls him Ugly Stick. At a tournament we were at together, friends wanted him to wear black and yellow and fish as an "Ugly Stick Pro". Funny stuff.

I like using a shallow crankbait in this situation.

i like the senkos, i recently baught two bags of them.. both 5" one is white with sparkles and the other one i would describe as watermelon... ill give that a try next time i go out, thanks for the help

From my experience, when you see bass schooling up and you're able to cast into the area within literally seconds after they start hitting...

it doesn't matter what you throw. They'll eat anything. I always keep a topwater ready to throw in case it happens near my boat (usually Zara Puppy), but any worm usually works too.

The only things that probably won't work are rattle traps, spinner baits and jigs. Problem being they move out of the strike zone too quick. But when bass get into a feeding frenzy like that, it's easy pickens.

the senko didn't dive to fast?  did u keep a steady retrieve on it to keep it towards teh surface?

I like to throw a fluke in this situation.  You can work it fast on the surface or slow it down and work below the surface and even count it down to the bottom.  Just let the fish tell you how they want it.

In response to the senko diving too fast....when a senko falls thru a school of shad,it looks like one that has been hit and is injured,floating down to his death,this is an easy meal for any bass hanging under the school of baitfish.(which they do all the time)

We catch alot of stripers this way too,with bucktails.Just cast into the school and let it sink.(But hold your rod real tight)
