Cold water bass

Recommended Posts

I am heading upto the mountins this weekend to go camping. I am going to a lake that is known strictly as a big rainbow lake. But i have seen some huge bass in it before and I want to go after em. do you guys got any cold water tactics or tricks that work well. Last time I checked the water temp was about 60 degrees. And im almost sure they are still prespawn up thair.

Well at 60 degrees they may be starting the spawn around the next full moon.

If rainbow trout are there, then that would be primary forage for them. Try a swim bait in that color

I HIGHGLY recommend a Lucky Craft Pointer 128 in American Shad color. You will have an excellent chance of catching some quality bass. If you want to target some of the rainbow, either throw a smaller pointer (78 or 100 in American Shad) or Rapala Countdown in the rainbow trout pattern.

Swimbaits, as I noted on another thread that's currently running, may catch some large bass, but your hook-up ratio is generally VERY low.

Well i didnt do as well as i had hoped. It has been raining alot the past few days, I think that may have played a part I only caught three in two days. One about one pound the other two were in the 2-3 pound range i got the smaller one on a shad pattern countdown. It hit that thing like a train it was great. The other two i caught on a chartruse (sp) spinner  in the morning. I guess the good thing was i got my limit of trout both days on the rapala. But im NOT giving up cause i know they are thair so i guess ill just have to try harder next time i go in a few weeks.
