On those tough high-blue windy days it can be hard to fish with the drop baits waiting for those finacky hits.

I have found the rattletraps very productive "in the soup". I'll get on the windy shoreline and throw it in as tight as possible. Reel it back as fast as you can. You'll get a reactionary strike.

I use a 6.1 to 1 reel and like the bright red mid-size trap. I rip it back so fast, it is just about below the surface when they'll stop you cold.

Shoreline with rock and/or riprap with a foot of water or more...........and bang!

Funny you should bring that up.  Went out fishing right after 4th of July weekend.  Boy, the lake was a mess.  Mud-lines galore!  The only thing these bass would hit, is a Rattle Trap, retrieved at high speeds.  Very good technique for those windy, muddy shoreline situations.  Good call, alloy!

Pick up a couple of the Lucky Craft version, I prefer the LV500 but you may like the LV300. As much as I too like Rat-L-Traps, the LVs are much better lures. The 500 weighs 3/4 oz but is packed into a 1/2 oz frame. You can cast this lure further than any other. It contains rattles and comes standard with Gammie treble hooks.

I won many a small local tournament on those high blue-bird days doing this. It was a pretty good secret for a pretty good long time.

I was out on the lake with a buddy of mine a few weeks ago.  We had been getting "skunked" for the first 4 hours of our day, when we got bored and decided to play around with the trolling motor.  

We each tied on a blue/chrome Rattlin' Rapala, let out some line, cranked the motor over on high, and took out across the lake.  We landed 3 bass, and a pretty healthy pickerel this way.  I would have never thought it would be such a successful technique   Other people on the lake were looking at us like we were crazy... up until we started yanking fish out of the water!
