tiki-stik question

Recommended Posts

i have these tiki-stiks that i don't use often but i would like to get into worm fishiing and plastics in general. so here is my question i was throwing a bubblegum tiki-stik which is pink and yellow and i had i weedless. so i was throwing it in the pad and i was having trouble making it sink down. i had one hit but that was it. i tried putting a split shot on but that didn't work either. i was throwing it in the pads and twitching it. now i know that you don't often feel the bite and you have to wait until it feels heavy or you see the line start to go. but i just couldn't get it to stay down? what should i do?

thanks for all your help

The Senko type baits are notorious and famous, at the same time, for their slow fall.  That is one characteristic that makes them so deadly on bass.

Perhaps you were fishing them too fast, and not allowing them to sink long enough.

If you are fishing lily pads, and they are fairly open, why not try to use a C-rig.  If they are floating that well, it would be well worth the try.

If the pads aren't that open, then, try a weedless jighead.   :)

They do not sink real fast, which as nwgabassmaster said, is what makes them so deadly.  If you want them to get deeper you can add a bullet weight or simply wait while it sinks.  There really isn't a wrong way to fish them.

Yeah, fishing fast with stickbaits is a big mistake.  When I started using them I fished them way to fast.  You get a lot more strikes if you just let them sink. When you fish them fast they don't have that sinking action that the bass like.

Extra:> My cousin and I went fishing tuesday. Are goal was 10 bass. I caught 9 and he caught 1.  6 of mine were caught on a wacky rigged Gulp sinking minnow.

Not all Senko style baits fall slow, just the ones with less salt, such as the Tiki Swirl series.

The slower falling baits will require more patience and like the others said, you gotta fish these baits slow.  They do their best when you just let them fall and sit - no action required by you.

You can weight them.  I like the screw in weights.  These baits, when matched with the proper weight, will actually spiral like a tube.  I've watched video of a weighted Senko and it had a very deadly looking fall.

I have also, as I stated in another post, pegged a bullet weight about 4-6" ahead of the Senko, and fished it this way.

The bullet weight kicks up a lot of silt on the bottom, and the Senko falls in line behind it, which makes it seem that it's the lure that is causing all the commotion.

It's a great way to fish a Senko, and it's something that a lot of anglers have never used, nor even thought of.   ;D

And here I have been trying to fish them like a fluke. I guess I have been fishing them way to fast. I will have to give them a serious try this week.
