What are the best topwater lures? Like the name and brand i use poppers and frogs (horny toad) else out there that is good.

Buzzbaits.

I like to use a #7 0r #11 jointed rapala. With practice you can get it to act like a dying minnow on top This seems to work better as the sun is going down then in the morning

This is a loaded question that has many answers. The short answer is, lots of topwaters have their place in the tackle box depending on the conditions and cover you are fishing them in. Open water, scholling fish hammering shad is a great place for a zara spook. Try downsizing to the spook jr. in northern waters. Laydowns, standing timber and such, a buzzbait is a great choice as long as the water isn't too choppy. Floating or submerged grass is a great place for a rebel pop r. Work it fast like a fleeing shad making sure it spits plenty of water! I used to fish these really sloww, wait for the ripples to dissappear, twitch, repeat. Then I fished with a pro in the Virginia top  100 who gave me a good education on how to fish the pop r.

Lily pads are a great place for a buzz frog, weedless frog or floating lizard or worm.

Did you know that a spinnerbait can double as a topwater? Burn it over submerged grass lines just below the surface for some hot action. You know your doing it right when it makes a wake!!

There 's no such thing as the "best", every lure is designed with a specific purpose in mind and all of them work when placed in the right conditions, it 's more important to know how to choose the right one for the moment and how to work it properly. Buzzbaits, walk the dog type, splashers, spitters, poppers, gurglers all of them catch fish at one time or another.

Buzzbaits, walk the dog type and gurglers are excellent to cover large ammounts of water fast.

Splashers, spitters and poppers are excellent for pin pointing small or tightly close spaces like pockets.

Minnow shaped even though they are not true topwaters work as topwaters and super shallow runners.

Hart buzzbaits in white/red or chart./red.

Strike King spit-n-king in gizzard shad.

Zoom horny toad or Yum buzzfrog in chart., white, or watermelon seed.

Zara Spook in ghost.

Bobby's perfect frog.

the Heddon Wounded Spook is good but its big 4 1/2 in 3/4 oz. good for big bass and pike and muskies.  

in our neck of the woods, bang-o-lures & rogues are tough to beat

One that has been forgotten and is a real lunker bait is the old Gilmore Jumper.  Best prop bait ever made for big bass when they want a bit of a ruckus.

I like the Pop-R a lot. The Heddon mini-Torpedo is great too. The original floating Rapala is effective but too expensive, so any similiar lure (like the Smithwick line of plugs) will do just as well. I've never caught anything on a buzz-bait, and for the life of me I don't know why.  :-/
