I was talking to some buddies of mine at one of my bass club meetings and they said that there's a petition going around to make bass fishing a varsity sport at our county high schools, that's awesome...I mean bass fishing a varsity sport...life is sweet.

;D  ;D  ;D

Sweet, i am in high school right now and play football and basketball if i could fish for the school then i quit all other sports. fishin is the best.

I can see it now, forget books, we need boats! Cant wait to see the new Cheerleader attire on sale at BPS.."Give me a B", Hook-em boys, hook-em"....LOL... I mean  ESPN is doing a good job of publicizing the sport, but give me a break.

What you boys need to do to get Fishing 101 in high schools is to get some interested teachers (who like to fish) and get them to help you.  Maybe a school board member (who likes to fish) as well.  Focus on those who like fishing and have some influnece.  I wish we had it in my high school, way back when.

Can't hurt to start asking! ;)

well it would be nice but you would only have the schools with money doing it. my high school use to do a fishing trip ever spring about a week befor school got out but we only had about 100 kids in the high school so we could do that.

Not to be negative but scHools have been getting music and sport program cuts left and right.   Around here anyway, it seems the kids are fighting constantly to not get their sports programs cut due to lack of funds.

It really is a shame.  Not to mention that some guy can swing a bat and make 40 million while the woman teaching our kids can't make enough to survive.

I just don't see it happening sadly enough.

I understand where your coming from LBH.  On the otherhand, there isn't that much of an investment in getting a fishing program going.  Trying the think outside the box, this might not be a bad idea.

Getting a school board to pass fishing wouldn't be the biggest problem in some parts of Texas.  Finding water would be.

There is less than zero chance of that happening up here in the politically correct great northeast. We go to a lake association meeting every summer, and listen to the Eastern Mountain Sports crowd cry about large gas motors, and the state maintained boat launch. Some people can't seem to comprehend that there's room for everybody, if everybody respects each others' needs.....unless they want to have an open season on jet-skis.....i could get behind that.....I'm fishing a lily pad clogged cove a few weeks ago and slaying them with a horny toad, and some yahoo on a 65 foot 10,000 Hp jet ski comes flying in, does a bunch of spins, and takes off again....Ok, maybe it wasn't that big or that powerful, but it might as well have been.....grrrrrr......okay, I'm done venting....

Wow that really would be great. I just graduated from highschool and would have loved that. Would have been alittle tougher in Chicago but I think I could have got some teachers to help. From talking to alot of people I don't think I would have found the other guys. Only a few guys fished at my school and almost all of them would have been to busy. Kinda odd you would think it might be the opposite, I found teachers and not students. Now I plan on concentrating my efforts on starting a college team.

O well Good luck with that and I hope it gets passed.
