Help on TOPO maps

Featured Replies

Hello, i was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to get topographic maps free or for realatively cheap on the internet or just where anyone can obtain one (libraries, archives) wherever.  Thanks, any help is appreciated God Bless. :)

The Wal-Mart in Trion, where I live, has topo maps of lakes within a 100 mile radius.  That includes a lot of the lakes in N. Ga., NE Al., and even a few in SC/NC and Tenn.

Check there first.  After that, I would check with the local library, but I wouldn't be suprised if they could not help you.

Other than that, try a Google Search for the lake that you are interested in, and see what you can come up with.

Topozone used to have a decent map that you could preview for free. I haven't looked at any online for some time now, there is Tiger maps and MapQuest too. , there is a link on here at the top I believe also. Some maps sometimes maybe aquired at a water or conservation office on smaller less popular lakes.

Fishing hotspots maps has a website, do a search for them.  They have great maps and are priced around 7-10 bucks.  The Michigan DNR website has topo maps of most of the public lakes here, but they are not all that detailed.  Check the DNR website of your state, if they have them, they are free.

Careful with maptech.

They use a lot of USGS maps and topos that can be very old.

I had a membership with them but cancelled after numerous lakes I wanted to fish were not even on their maps since their maps were older than when the lakes were built.

Now I use hotspots or make maps on my lowrance software.

It's free, you can look at topos and arial photos.

Some of them are older mid 90's, but the way topography changes in this country unless it was made today it wouldn't be exactly accurate!!

I've been using the fishing hot spots maps.

they have been fairly accurate for finding drop offs, creek channels, and ledges.

Even if you look at the maps you still need to get on the water and verify that what you are looking for is still there.

Hope this helps!!!
