Swimbait or Jerkbaits

Featured Replies

The bait monkey is controlling my mind. He tells me I should buy the Spro BBZ-1 Shad Swimbait or the Bass Pro Shops XPS 5-Piece Suspending Jerkbait Kit. Which do you think I should get? Which will help me more. I have no jerkbaits or swimbaits currently.

id rather have a staysee than either of those

I'd get a strike king king shad and an x-rap or two. It'll cost you about the same and you'll have a swimbait and a jerkbait.

I'm a firm believer in both of these as my tackle box will show....

2 questions. What is the best color for the King shad and which X-rap. I was looking at the Husky Jerk.

Also what color and weight would be best for the jerkbait? :-? :-? :-? :-? :-?

On the king shad I like the gizzard shad or the japanese shad and xraps my favorite is the ghost size 10. What you should do is try to match the forage base for the waters you fish.

Most guides I have met say dark lure dark water, light lure clear water, rest is overkill.

I mostly use ghost day or night, works just fine.

I fish mixed waters a lot of the time. For the king shad I was thinking about maybe the sexy shad. For the x rap I just realized I already have one so now I guess my money is going to just a swimbait.

If you are looking at the 4" Spro, can't go wrong with it or the Tru Tungsten.

Down in Florida D.O.A. jigs and jerkbaits are very popular.  I use them in fresh, brackish and saltwater.  Bass love them as much as other species.  I mostly use pearl with a red tail.  In weedy areas I rig them weedless and have very good success.

I bought that bps jerkbait kit last year and the baits did not even suspend! I would rather have 1 or 2 x-raps over that kit any day.

I have both and use them alot. The one thing to remember is the water clarity. Clearer water use natural colors dirty water use dark and bright colors.
