How to fish cold muddy waters

Featured Replies

also, one last thing.  dont listen to anyone who says they arent catchable.  dont get down about the conditions.  those fish are as catchable as any other condition.  you just have to adjust.  fish with confidence.  know you are goin to catch them, and work that jig like crazy and cover as much water as you can.  flip the jig into the pile, give it a hop, then shake it and let it sit.  if nothin bites, reel it in and go to another spot

Listen to Senko!  That is exactly what I've been doing here (St. Louis area) for the last four weeks.  Muddy water with 44 - 52 degree surface temps.  That approach has been the only consistent producer for me with the exception of the bait.  I have been pitching a junebug Sweet Beaver 4.20.  Everything else is exactly as Senko said.  Good Luck.

It will be nice when the water temp gets out of the 30s here. I'm afraid the bass just aren't shallow yet. I noticed some small bluegill at the shoreline of the smaller shallow ponds that have warmed up faster. I need to take a thermometer and check the temps in them. That should be a good starting point to know when the forage is moving shallow in the large muddy lakes. The muddy lakes should really warm up faster since they are able to absorb more heat. Great topic with a lot of great info.

Noisy lure with scent and worked sloooooow ;D
