Zoom 7" Mag Super Fluke

Featured Replies

My primary soft stick bait is Wave Worm's Tiki Bamboo Stick. Also fish 5" Senko's when a smaller bait works better and Zoom Super Flukes.

I'm interested in the 7" mag fluke as a different look to the Tiki Bamboo stick but would also be heavy enough so it would cast well in the wind.

If anyone has used the Mag fluke I would appreciate their comments.

Also, would a 5/0 EWG hook be large enough for this bait?

5/0 ewg is pushing it.It is a little too small. A 6/0 is great.Owner is making the wide gap plus in a 6/0 now. Gamakatsu has a new "monster hook" that comes in sizes 6/0 through 8/0 and they also make a weighted version of it.

With flukes I usually try to use the largest hook I can get away with.Better hookups and better sink rate.

The mag fluke a gnarly creation. It can catch some monsters. It is also quite heavy. You will probably need a MH rod as this bait prob weighs close to an ounce rigged. It is also hard to get the correct twitching action with a lighter "bendy" rod.You need a little backbone.

Hope this helps and don't be shy to throw it on a carolina rig ;)

The G-Mag Oversize hook is a good fit for that bait for a weightless version. The Reaction Strike series of weighted swimbait hooks in 6/0 or 7/0 works well for deeper or faster presentations.

For big baits, including the Rage Tail Anaconda, I recommend the

Gamakatsu 5/0 EWG Offset Round Bend Hook:

Although I don't fish Zoom anything, this is the right hook for the

6" and 7 1/2" Slug-Go.

I fished this giant of a fluke last year and at first all I could find was some 6/0 EWG hooks. They did work but not all that well, missed a lot of fish when the bait balled up.

Then found some of the Gamakatsu 7/0 Monster EWG hooks and they work perfectly. I suggest using at least a 7' MH rod and 30 to 50 lb braid. My personal setup is a 7' H, Revo S spooled with 50 lb Power Pro.

You can do anything with this big fluke you can do with the Super fluke. It has the same action and with the big hook still has a horizontal fall. This is a BIG FISH bait! ;)

Stick to 'highly recommending' line and rods.
