Catch 'em there...Put 'em here

Featured Replies

If you didn't already know, I'm new to fishing, and I've been searching the internet the past few weeks learning as much as I can. I often come across articles and pages about "how to stock/manage your pond." So I was just thinking about the two ponds(2 acres and 5 acres) that I are just a short walk from my house. I almost never see anybody fishing these ponds. I had an idea that I would fish a large body of water like the potomac river, since i live near DC, catch bass, bluegill and other species and release them into the two ponds i'm talkin about. Thoughts......? Suggestions....? Good idea or bad idea...?

You might want to first check with your local Game and Fish Department first to make sure it's legal.  I know here in Arizona, if you get caught ilegally stocking a body of water, you can actualy have your fishing liscense suspended, along with a hefty fine.  The only other thing is that if you released fish into the new ponds that had some kind of disease, it could harm the the whole ecosystem.

It is probably illegal to move fish to different bodies of water there too as it is in most states. However, you might be able to get a permit or something to be able to do it. Or just pay the money for your own stocking.

I'm not sure on the regs for your state but in California you can not transport any live fish. It doesn't matter what your reason, unless of course you legally buy one from a pet store or breeder. Taking fish from one body of water to another is against the law here.

Check the your local regs or you could get in trouble.

Check your local regs and I'm not sure how well a river bass would adjust to life in a lake.

hey c17Lat i live in northern VA and get alot of info from this site....

http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/

there is a great article in there about pond management and they have started this new program called the Community Lake Improvement Program (C.L.I.P.).

they may be willing to come out and work with you and the rest of your commuity in getting the ponds up to par.

here's the link to the program... http://www.dgif.state.va.us/fishing/special_programs/clip.html
