goldfish in the river?
hey everybody I just wanted to share about an interesting trip I had yesterday. Theres a run off of the colorado river here in yuma, az that turns into a sort of lake, known as the L lake here cause its in the shape of an L. well i had been there before but not recently, yesterday was the first time in about a year. we launched and i immediately noticed the water was crystal clear, the clearest water ive ever fished in. but there were gold fish everywhere! not little ones but big 3-5lbers swimming all over! the whole time i was there no matter what direction i looked in one could be seen. these wernt just ordinary carp cause there were a lot of those too. it was soo wierd but cool at the same time. i plan to fish there tomorrow morning so i'll take some pics and post them. does anyone know how these fish could of got there? could a cat fisherman have maybe relesed some goldfish he was using for bait? do you know how i might be able to catch one? oh i almost forgot i ended up catching 4 good size bass and my friend caught 5. any comment would be appreciated.

Shimano Bantam Brushmaster 11
Hi everybody, well my uncle just gave me an old reel. It says "Bantam Brushmaster Flipping 11" on the sideplate. Its made by Shimano. I've never even heard of it, but thats probly just because im sure its real old. Anyways i took it apart to clean cause usually i'm pretty good with taking reels apart, but i can't seem to get this one back together. So if anyone has schematics, or knows where i could get schematics, i would appreciate it if you could share that info with me. Oh and ive already looked on mikesreelrepair.com and couldnt find it there. But yeah thanks to anyone who could help! ;D

favorite rapala lure
I'm a fan of all of the DT crankbaits. They are great quality, and are reasonably priced.

what tried and proven technique isnt for you??
C-rigging. I just can't get em' to bite it.

catfish barbs
On the dorsal and pectoral fins. Be careful because it really hurts! I've only been stabbed once and it drew blood and it left a nice scar. The catfish that did it was only about a pound too. But after the initial stabbing it starts to burn because the catfish (depending on species) have bacteria that live on their fins that cause itching and burning after they stab you.

The Worst
Drop shotting... probably because i haven't given it a very good chance.

Texas or wacky ??
I like to texas rig better than wacky. I don't see much of a difference, just that texas is more weedless. IMO i don't think it matters too much, just your prefference.

Is bigger really better??
I caught my PB (8lbs 4oz) on a 3" cotton candy Kalin's grub with a 1/8oz jighead. I think its just got to be that right time/place. I've caught plenty of big bass on small lures.

Top Water Help
You might even want to try speeding up your presentation. I've found that alot of times that will produce agressive strikes from those finicky bass. As for the three twitches and pause, maybe you should just try one twitch and pause. Sometimes it takes a little experimenting but once you figure out want they want it's well worth it.

I'm going to start a bait company.
Oh, but either way good luck with it. I've always wanted to make my own baits but just never got around to.

I'm going to start a bait company.
Maybe you should consider starting out with soft plastics, then crankbaits, then maybe your own chatterbait. I think it's going to be harder then you think.

What is a "big bass" in your neck of the woods.
11-15lbs is a big bass here in AZ. State record is 17lbs.

Structure and cover??
rocks and bolders because crawfish hang around those a lot and I like to fish jigs/creature baits.

To keep or throw back.....why the complaints??
I don't think there is anything wrong with what you are doing BT. Where I live (Yuma, AZ) we get "snowbirds" in the winter, which are actually just cheap old codgers (IMO there is a difference betwween old codgers and senior citizens) who come from Wisconsin, Oregon, Washington, primarily colder states to escape the cold in their hundred thousand dollar RV's and what not (so you know they are not poor, but actually pretty well set) and choose to live at the lakes I fish at for months living off nothing but the fish! They catch their limit every day and eat all of them, for literally months, no matter the size. Some of them are so cheap they take and boil the lake water (which thay dump their septic tanks into) for drinking. People like that make me angry, not you.

POLL-Berkeley Gulp Ad
I also voted humorous. It wasn't hilarious or anything, but the first time I saw it, it kinda made me laugh. I do think that Gulp! needs a new commercial though, it's getting old.

Jumping fish
Is there some kind of technique that can be used to keep a fish from jumping while he's hooked? I usually just keep my rod up and my line as tight as possible when I know the fish is about to jump. This usually does alright, but I'd rather he not jump. Just if there is anything that you guys use to keep em down during a fight, please share it.

Favorite Summertime baits
I like rat-l-traps, zoom flukes, buzzbaits (morning and evening), and I really like to throw big t-rigged worms (12"+). Those are just some of my favorites, I have tons more.

Sturgeon General Warning:"Senkonlylimitativism"
I was also a senko addict. :-[ Not any more though, but my friend is a senlo only and nothing else user. It drives me crazy!

Worst fishing habbits?
Swithching lures too often. If it doesn't work after 10 minutes > I find myself tying on something else.
-
Generally speaking........
I went with "doesn't matter as long as it works" because I fish so many different kinds of environments.

How often do you try a new bait?
I like to throw a new bait every time I fish. Its not actually a new bait I usually throw, just different colors. I will spend an entire trip experimenting with a new bait. Just last weekend all I threw was a white jig, because I had never used one before. At first, it kinda sucked. Then I figured out how they wanted it, and caught em' all day long. Needless to say, its one of my new confidence baits.

Catch 'em there...Put 'em here
You might want to first check with your local Game and Fish Department first to make sure it's legal. I know here in Arizona, if you get caught ilegally stocking a body of water, you can actualy have your fishing liscense suspended, along with a hefty fine. The only other thing is that if you released fish into the new ponds that had some kind of disease, it could harm the the whole ecosystem.
