Kevin VanDam Interview

Recommended Posts

I just found this interview with Kevin VanDam online.  It's dated October 5th.

http://www.news-leader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061005/LIFE06/610050333/1037

It's good to see his statement that his greatest accomplishment would be for his children to think he is a good father.  Bravo.  Also, he mentions schooling that he thinks is helpful to pro anglers, which relates to the thread about Business Administration being useful in the role of a pro angler.

KVD seems like a great guy.....I cant remember ever hearing of anyone that had something bad to say about him.I got alot from his DVD's and he's one of the pro's that is respected on every level.

I met KVD at a sports show here in KC last year and he is about the most normal superstar that you could imagine.  He held a seminar on jerkbaits and such, then answered a ton of questions and signed autographs, he signed my copy of one of his books, which is pretty cool.  As I was leaving I passed him in the hallway and asked him if I could ask a couple of questions, I was still a little confused at the time about power and action on a rod, and he stopped and explained to me in great detail about the differences.

Funny story about that, we actually were standing very near an exhibitor booth that was giving a trip to Orlando away as a drawing, and this guy had no clue who he was talking to, he kept trying to get me and KVD to sign up for this trip to Orlando, and Kevin kept saying I already have a trip to Orlando scheduled in Feb,  this was just before the Classic.  I looked at Kevin like, "does this guy not get a hint or what".  I just had to laugh, think that you are talking to the reigning Classic champion who will be in Orlando in Feb. to defend his title.

;D Great story, Huskerto.  I guess KVD didn't tell him who he was?  That's classic.  No ego trip there.

He never did tell him who he was, but he had his tour shirt on loaded with sponsors and VANDAM in big letter on his back. ::)

KVD has truly been an ambassador for BASS and the sport.

You couldn't find a better representitive of the sport anywhere else.

KVD is humble at best.

Matt.
