javallon swimbait?

Featured Replies

Anyone tried this yet? How do you use it? Any success?  How do you rig such a thick chunk of plastic and still get a hook through and into the fish? I ordered some of the lake  fork tackle version after seeing that awesome action on that video and know I will need help. Thanks.

I 'm not familiar with the Lake Fork version but do have the original Javallon in 3 sizes: 110, 140, 160; form the three the 110 is the trickiest of them all, I mean trickiest because the head is quite small and you find yourself with the problem that the most common wide gap hook sizes available are too big or even though they are wide gap the gap is not wide enough, for the regular T rigging.

Ok so for all your Javallons go for this hook:

Owner model 5139, size 1/0 for the 110 and 3/0 for the 140/160

You can also wacky rig the Javallon longitudinally along the head or you can use it as a drop shot bait.

Where did you order the Lake Fork version ? getting them all the way back from Japan turns out to be costly, at 14 bux a pack plus 6 bux shipping and 3-4 weeks waiting before I can get them it 's becoming a pain in the neck, not to mention that apparently no one has the colors I want when I want them.

Best hook for the smaller bait is an Owner Rig'n Hook. It has a short shank and wide gap making it fit perfectly since the shank isn't too long and the gap is wide enough to come through the thick head I believe I have used both the 4/0 and 5/0 for the bait. I am sure the 4/0 fits pretty well.

I use the owner rig'n hook 3/0.  Works just right for the javallon 110.

I have a few of the new Fork models, and there 4 1/2"  I've been using a 3/0 Owner Rig n' hook and it works fine.  Only problem with them is they come pre-rigged on a jighead, so when you switch it with a wide gap you have a big hole in the nose of the bait.  Super glue solves this but the nose rips up easy.

Raul, do a search for Brannan's Bass Shop. On their home page at the top under manufacturers, look up Mark Pack's lake fork trophy. In the center of the column of baits you will see the Live Magic Shad 4.5 inch. That is the one I got. I have not tried it yet. Thanks.

Thanks, I 've browsed their page in the past but have never ordered from them, $4.89 is not a bad price vs 12 bux plus 6 dollars shipping and 1.50 dollars for each additional pack of lures. Wish they had more colors and more sizes, color AYU ( green back, pearlescent white white belly ) works very well for me.

The only thing I hate about Javallons is that the links between the pieces are very fragile and rip up easily; there you are casting your bait, a dink comes and smashes it ..... and you only retrieve the frigging head of the lure.  >;)

I've fished the Javallons weightless and as a drop-shot bait.  So far, only caught a couple with it weightless.  As was said, the Owner(forgive me Sugoi ;)) hooks are better for this deep and wide bait.

I personally think those baits are Junk.  But what do I know?

Apparently not much. You should have at least 50 of them rigged up every time you hit the water. THEY WILL CATCH MUCHO FISH.
