Global Warming

Featured Replies

I've been thinking about global warming and was wondering what you guys think the effect of it on fishing will be?? Or if you've seen anything in the past that may have made you think that it was caused by global warming.

Hey, maybe will get some bigger bass up here in Massachusetts 8-)

Global warming?  I never thought of it from a fishing stand-point.  The best I can figure is that with the melting of the Arctic and Antarctic ice caps, 50 years from now anyone who lives within ten miles of the coast should by then be able to fish off his back porch

WELL if it gets hot year around I'll be glad to fish everyday!

Longer fishing season for you northern guys and more lunkers.  For us southerners...more 15lb+bass.  I'm about to go crank my truck and let it run ;D

There are several arguements here. You can say there is no such thing because the earth goes through natural hot and cold stages. But that cant prove why the earth is warming up so much faster than it has before. There is no arguement on that. That cold front didnt prove a thing either. It was simply an oddly low dip in the jet stream that brought cold air way too far south. But something that we havent looked at recently that could be a big cause is solar activity. This study is incredibly new, we just started studying the sun scientifically a short time ago and have no records of its activity. An unusual flare up of solar storms can affect the earths climate for years. So is the earth warming? yes, but its not necessarily global warming...

Remember when the goby was discovered in the great lakes it was going to destroy the bass fishery or when zebra mussels were predicted to do the same? Yes, native fish like mottled sculpin, logperch and darters will be negatively impacted by the goby, but bass seem to thrive on them. And the zebra mussels have impacted the ecosystem, just look at the clarity of those massive polluted lakes... but they still remain a great concern. Neither has lived up to the dire forecasts that were made early on. It just might be my misguided opinion, but there seems to be a natural balancing act in motion.

I do admit global warming currently exists, just as global cooling existed in the 1970's when popular scientists were crying that another ice age was going to hit, and pollution seemed to be at an all time high. But the earth seems to go through cycles, even within a person's lifetime. I really doubt the doom and gloom the Gore glorifiers predict, although I do believe it would be a good thing to do what we can to minimize our harmful effects on the earth, without destroying our economy. And America can't do it all!

So what does that mean for bass fishing? At least for us up north, bass will get bigger in the warming cycle and smaller in the cooling cycle. From recent reports it appears that the warming cycle is nearing an end and a cooling cycle is again about to begin. I just wish I could catch some bigger bass before all the talk about global cooling begins again. I need to get a new Personal Best while there's still a hole shot.

And I understand Mars is also experiencing global warming If that's not a natural occurrence then I don't know what is.

You fellas better get some hard core ice fishing gear.  Its gonna end up like the movie "Day After Tomarrow."

I have had to delete a couple of posts. As usual, political or in this case "semi-political" posts come into play. At any rate, this thread has run its course and is now closed.
