Fishing Books

Featured Replies

I picked up "A Good Life Wasted: or Twenty Years as a Fishing Guide" by David Ames last night.

I was wondering what good books about fishing everyone else has read.  I have read Ike's book, I have a million bass magazines it seems, but what books out there have yall read and enjoyed that pertained to fishing?

It really depends on what you want to know.

Fishing tactics and techniques can be found almost anywhere by many authors.

Kevin VanDam's books are very informative and easy to read as are Uncle Homer Circle's publications.

There are books on the individuals who fish, such as Ike's book, Fishing on the Edge, which I found enjoyable and interesting plus it has some good fishing tips.

There are books about the fish, themselves.  I picked up a copy of Dr. Jones' book which I plan to read as I fly to Baton Rouge in June.

You need to decide what types of topics you want to read about and then search the web, bookstores or tackle shops for them.

Whatever you read will make you a better fisherman.

And understand why the bass, as an animal, is smarter than us humans! ;)

I guess I should have been more specific.  I am not really looking for strategy / technique books.  i have a million bassmaster magazines and this website for that.  I guess more along the lines of biography books like Fishing on the Edge, etc.

A Good Life Wasted: Or Twenty Years as a Fishing Guide is pretty good so far.  It is basically about a guy who had a good job, a good future, but couldn't stand the Corporate world.  So he quit leaving the good job behind to go be a fishing guide.

The Bassmaster by Shaw Grigsby

Bassmaster magazine

The Bassmaster book library (not quite sure of the name but a few hundred pages worth of fishing material.)

Big Bass Magic by Doug Hannon

I'm looking to read Ike's book, Sowbelly, and now I'll have to look up Homer Circle's book.

This is in an introductory format for bass fishermen.

I read them all,  both of KVD's books are great Denny Bruer book is good Buck Perry's book is the very best but you need to read it and update his writing to today technogies witch makes it a very hard read.

All the Infishermen series.

Then my parents are yard sale buffs and I get them to buy every fishing book they see.

I'm an all spiecies angler so I read a crappie book that had great stuff on logging chains and a walleye book  that went right into anchoring technic (maybe Anderson) so don't limit your self.

Bass Madness came out pretty recently.  Its a book about the politics and what not behind the classic, i'm only 30 pages into it but it seems pretty good so far.

Mike Iconelli's book is a really good and intersting read.
