Fishing seated from a boat.......

Featured Replies

As some of yall know, I had major foot surgery a few months ago.... Been fishing a few times and its been frustrating.Which is killing me, counted in my log the other day, I fish 207 days last year :o..... Not able to stand very long, especially not in a boat. I have always bass fished standing up even in a my gheenoe, on the front or back deck, to the point that I have only fished in certain people's boat once due to be uncomfortable and feeling unable to fish... I have a bass boat w/ good size decks and usally use pro-style butt seat on the front, but cant really get comfortable w/ sitting down, feels awkward, and missing alot of fish on the hookset :'(. Any tips, suggestions, or similar experiences......

I used to never have a seat in a boat, always fished standing up.  The older I get the more I sit.  There are only a few instances where I HAVE to stand.  Skipping under a dock with a baitcaster, pitching a very long distance, or trying to get around a tree, bolder, dock, etc.  Like anything else, practice, practice, practice.

I can fish standing or sitting but as it has already been stated the older I get and the worse my lower back gets the less I stand.

Hopefully, you'll be able to stand as time passes. In the meantime, I would think you'll improve your sitting results with each successive outing.

Good luck.

My worn out knees have forced me to sit most of the day.  I can only stand for a couple of hours at a time.  I have learned to hold the rods differently when sitting to get a good hook set.  I still think I miss more seated but the other alternative is to watch tv. ;D

I have had to fish sitting down since 1981 due to an industral accident. My injury was servere enough that the company and federal goverment retired me. That did not stop my fishing and made my deer hunting better as I have to sit more and move around less. I have won numerous club and local tournaments. The only technique that I have any problem with is flipping. I do a modified pitch instead.

Bill Dance has it down pat.

I use a butt seat most of the time, but from time to time I like sitting down, esp. if I've been out for a long time or am going on no sleep.

modifying the seat so it is as high as possible without comprimising safety will increase your leverage and add to your comfort as well.

I think I've spent more time standing ON the seat, lol.  Spawn  is still rolling up here and sight fishing the last few weeks has been a blast.  Standing on the seat gives me that extra view (Yes Fluke, by standing on the seat I'm the same height as everyone else now ;D )

i hate sitting also but at times it feels so good other than being awkward lol.  what im gonna do is attach the seat to a tall butt seat pole so im up high still just with a back. im  also tall so my legs are very bent sitting low
