If only I had a Camera!!

Featured Replies

Yesterday, Wurm and I went fishing as we always do on Sunday.

We wanted to try a different spot than our normal.  So we went

and fished in a spot that I knew about.  It proved to be productive,

as Wurm and I caught 3 largemouth's a piece.

The cool thing is, as we were fishing Wurm said "Osprey"  I turned and

looked and the Osprey was about 3 ft. above the water.  I missed seeing

it plunge into the water trying to catch a fish. Wurm, however

witnessed the whole thing.  He (The Osprey)  didn't catch anything.

A hour or so later, the Osprey was flying around in circles.  We stopped

fishing to witness this huge bird flying gracefully looking down into the water.

You could tell that he was hunting.  He flew in about 3 or 4 circles before

going behind some trees that were around the bend of where we were

fishing.  A few minutes later he returned and had a nice sized fish in his

grasp sure to be locked down with his talons.  He flew right over the top of us.

The wing span was huge.  Needless to say, it was an awesome site to see.

I know that this may seem normal to most of you, but where we are from,

the Osprey is on our states endangered species list.  There only 2 nesting

spots in our state.  One just happens to be where we fish.

What an awesome day, good fishing was had by all!!

I wish you had a camera too!!

Such an awesome animal. What if we had to acheive such feats just to eat.

Then again an Osprey wouldn't kiss a bosses ***!!

Fishin' for a livin'.

We get a lot of Ospreys down here...  The Bald Eagles are the ones that I like to see...

sounds awesome, reminds me of a story....

i live in maryland and we've got osprey out the wazoo, but we've got bald eagles making the comeback, i've seen a couple nesting pairs in creeks off the potomac river, well this one eagle had gotten injured and after some veternary TLC it was finally healthy enough to be set free.  since they were about to release the national bird and all they decided to invite bill clinton and i think the old governor glendenning was there.  after some nice words and lots of happy "look at me, i love the environment" publicity photos they released the bird and everyone cheered, but the cheer only lasted all of about 3 seconds because two ospreys swooped down and pounced on it.  they had to save the bald eagle from getting too torn up and drowned in the patuxent river.  oops.

fishing isnt all about what comes over the side, chris

Yes, LOTS of Ospreys here! Quite a few Bald Eagles too, but you don't see them near as much. I see them at Lk Ariana a lot. One was trying to catch a bunch of coots one day right near where I was fishing. You should have seen them scatter. The Eagle was unsuccessful.

Anyone ever see a Caracara? I see them down near the Lk Wales area a lot. Really neat birds!

Osprey'sand Caracara's are like sparrows or crows around my parts. I live in one of the most, if not the most, sought after birding regionin the country. They're net birds.

This is my first post, but have been enjoying reading and learning a lot from all of you. It is a great site! Here is California we are fortunate to have quite a few bald eagles. My brother took this picture from his bass boat at Lake Shasta a couple weeks ago, so thought I would share it with you!

The highlight of the day (besides the bass we caught) was that Osprey flying overhead, fish in talon!  Never seen one with a fish before, it was pretty impressive.  And as my brother already said, they are not common here at all.
