Bass and Snakes: A Coincidence?

Featured Replies

I work at a golf course, which as of recently has an influx of snakes.  Particularly cottonmouths.  I know they're poisonous, so I let someone else try to catch them.  One actually bit my friends senko when we were fishing.  Anyway, while on the prowl for such creatures, we cruised up on a spot and I saw four or five big bass in the water.  As soon as I say "do you see those bass?", someone else says holy "crap" look at that snake.  There was a big cottonmouth laying on the rip-rap, and the bass were scared away by us, and the snake swam away.  Snake on the bank, big bass waiting in the water, a coincidence or should I get one of those Doug Hannon snakes?

If there are alot of snakes there and the bass seem to feed on them, I would at least try the snakes. Those things look great and I'm thinking about ordering some.

I've heard by the ol'timers if those Bass got over a 100#'s we'd be in trouble on the water.

I just ordered some - report to follow after the 4th. :)

A tale told in a Bassmaster magazine many years ago was a snake story.

Seem this guy was fishing in the fall with a 15" plastic worm and caught a 13" bass. He took it home to clean it, and pulled an 18" snake out of it's stomach.

Largemouth bass LOVE eating snakes... and just about anything else that moves.

I actually saw one jump out of the water and swallow a bird that was flying full speed about 8" above the water.

you could buy the doug hannon kind or you could customize your very own snake with scent, glitter, rattles, and any color combo imaginable at www.designerlures.com. the owner is very nice. theyre snakes come 3 to a pack for 3 dollars. they are a foot long. very nice. you can go to www.nealstacklebox.com to buy them as designerlures doesnt sell directly.
