BR State VS State fish off......

ok, at the suggestion of "he who shall remain nameless" there will also be a smallmouth catagory in all four divisions.

As for the percentage of state records.

No, absolutely not, way to much math involved.  This is not a calculus class. It is a friendly fishing contest where wining states will gloat and become generally intolerable to everyone else on this site. Gloating will only be allowed until the end of April......

keep the suggestions coming, final rules will be consolidated and posted with the list of entrants on or about Mar 1.

What about those of us who are already generally intolerable? ;D

If it requires another entry to be in the smallmouth competetion, then I am in as well. At this point I have already won that one, unless SteveP can find a monster smallie in the Stick Marsh, LOL!

Hey..

It's probably answered but I didn't read all three pages..

How are the guys from the North handicapped (other than we live in the North Ha! Ha!)

Fourbizz cannot enter until his blood pressure drops below 150/110

The doob abides.....

Count me in for Florida and hopefully I will get to participate in Division 1 on the Stick Marsh.

Yo, Bait Monkey. Ya got any sugestions for the turnament?

holy crap, yeah i'd say that doob abides!

Entry fee - you have to declare your intention to compete ..., and post your best Avid look a like photo..(Ray Charles glasses or shadowy self portrait or just plain fuzzy pic)

I almost forgot.

Percentage of state record is the only way for this to even being CLOSE to something relatively fair.

Glenn- would it be tough to make a calculator for this?  (Plug in "weight", then "state" = percentage)

If we can get it done this way, I'm in.  Every division, I'll be travelling alot this year ;)

Unrequested Advice to fishin daddy.

run your fun little contest any way you see fit...if you try to take all the well meaning suggestions this will turn into a major project.

It's your idea dude....have fun with it...If others want to do something different then they can start  another contest...

Personally I think this stuff is alot of fun and I would enter any and every contest on the board.

I suppose I will jump into the race and declare Iowa is in the competition.  Hopefully the ice is gone by April 15th ::)

I'm with LBH. Great idea, let's just keep it as fair as possible. HUGE bragging rights up for grabs here!!!! :o

I agree. But any way you want to do it is fine with me. Sign me up............. ;)

I hear that.  I can bet Ice out on some of the northern lakes could be later than 4/15.   Count me in for Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, as I fish all 3 states.    This pic is from 4/22 last year.

Unless you take LBHs advice and create some kind of a handicap, you have pretty much excluded all of us in the Northeastern USA. There are only 4 states in the country that have a smaller state record than where I live and they are all in the NE.   JMHO

Then you could do away with the divisions and one state could stand alone.

Some of the competition is already scaring me off! ;D

The more forethought, the better the chance for longevity ;)

Actually I gave this quite a lot of forethought.  But if you guys want to go head to head with Fl, fine.  FYI the Fl state record is only 17.27 lbs and the farm is producing 10 -12 lbers every day with Kissimmee, Toho and Harris about to start doing the same thing.  So if you think yall can get within 75% of your respective state records, then it's on.

Only 2 Divisions - Artificial Bait only

Largemouth Division - % of state record

Smallmouth Division - % of state record

May the best state win

Ours is 10.6 and my pb is 9.2,....it's all relevant.

I wasn't trying to bully in on anything, just offering my advice after having started and completed many campaigns of this type of nature here.  I'm always sure I thought of everything till I run it by the other mods and sure enough, their suggestions usually make it one step better.

Just trying to help.

There was a thread on your pb vs your state record within the last yr.  I think that you'll find that 75% is common for a few guys here with quite a few surpassing it.  (hopefully , I'll be one of them,l :) )

On your mark,.....get set,......FISH!!!

(yes, the frozen in crew will give the southerner's a head start..... ;D)

you said EXACTLY what i was thinking. Its the only fair way to do it. If we do it like that them im in.

Also, is private waters in?

Representing NJ and maybe NY. I edited this post to declare that I am competing in the LARGEMOUTH division according to the revised rules.

LBH - I have no doubt that there are many guys here who can get 75% of their states record, but can you expect to do that in March?  I had it set so that the gulf coast states were going against each other trying to give the northern guys, who have not seen liquid water for some time, a chance.

Any way, the formula should be something like the following example:

fish weight = 10.5 lbs  (my pb)

state record Fl = 17.27 lbs

FW / SR x 100 = your score

10.5/17.27x100 = 60.80  rounded to 2 decimals

What do you think of that?

and btw, you have not posted your complete entry fee.

I revoke my entry due to all of the lame backseat driving.

Geez, sorry,....just trying to help.  knock yourself out, I'm out of it.

LBH..

Don't listen to a few jerks on here!!! I am getting a little tired of members who have "smart a&&" remarks all the time on the posts. This guy is just making suggestions. He organizes tournaments for Gods sake!!!

We are here to help each other out.  If an another member can help you build a better mouse trap, why not!! Some members think they know everything...gimme a break!! The proposal made in this thread is a GREAT idea. It is also a HUGE undertaking..the more ideas the better. If you don't like someones ideas or post, PM them. KEEP THE NEGATIVES TO YOURSELVES PLEASE!!!

AJR

This is why I avoid all competition when fishing. I fish to get away from all the stress and toils that life brings.
