Went ice fishing today, and still 14 inches of ice :'( Although the next week is forecasted to be in the 50s and low temps above freezing. Throw a good forecasted rain shower in on Wednesday and we could be ice free in 7-10 days ::)

Hey Pondhopper have you ever fished... is it Red Rock lake near Pella?

Nope never have although I probably will this year as a buddy lives on the lake.  What kind of fishing are you looking for?

Just courious what it was like there. I stopped there once while on a service call. I thought it looked very peaceful there. I always wanted to rent a small housboat for a couple of days and just float around and fish while the kids got some sun tans.

I also know believe it or not one person from Corydon and one from some small town near Corydon Centerville I think it was.

Roadwarrior...can't start fishing for bass in Wisc. until mid May. I think they should allow catch & release only. But I've heard that if the DNR catches you using say your baitcasters with big cranks(or any type of bait targeting bass), they'll ticket & take all of you equipment. There must be a good reason why you can't fish for bass until mid May but I don't see it. Oh well.

Are you serious??? I did not know that, that really sucks. Although you can probably go out there with a bait that catches both walleye and bass, like a grub, and just say you are fishing for walleye or pike ;)

HesterIsGod, you can't fish for northerns, musky, walleyes or bass from I think March 1st until mid May.

Not a thread about "closed seasons" guys, please keep it on topic.  ;) Thanks

I just returned from the lake not less than 10 minutes ago.

Ice is out.  Kinda.

The main lake is free but where we need to be for the big bite is still blocked.  East or northeast SHALLOW, DARK BOTTOMED coves.  swim something, anything, jig, fluke, spinnerbait, shallow crank.

Sit tight, fish will be moving in packs, frequenting this warm water during the peak sun hours of the day.  Pick your coves, get in there and settle down.

Thanks LBH

I'll give that suggestion some more effort next time. Usualy this time of year I'm just glad to have open water and be outside, the fish are almost and afterthought!
