dead shad

Featured Replies

When I went fishing this morning, the lake was full of dead shad floating around,  any idea what is going on?

I have heard of this, It is usually caused by high temperatures, and a lack of current. These two things combine together to reduce the amount of oxygen in the water. This is called fish kill.

Shad sometimes die off in large numbers after spawning.  It's rather common.   Usually nothing to worry about, just the natural cycle of life.

I saw this in a small pond here, I was told by a guy that lived there that he sees this every year after the ice thaws.  I was wondering why only the shad, the bass were healty, crappie were too.

Thanks Micro.  That is what I thought I'd heard before but wasn't positive.
