Need Some Help Boys

Featured Replies

I am in SC fishing a few small lakes. The bottom is full of grass beds. I went out today and didn't catch anything. I used a green T rig trck stick most of the day. I also tried brush babys, jigs, spinning and crank. I could see the bass swiming by all day looking for spawn beds. What am I doing wrong here?

Nothing much, just keep plugging.

Sometimes (often, when they let you see them) they just are not in BITE mode.  Sometimes they can be tricked or triggered but you gotta just keep plugging.  Often times,...the tide can swing in the complete different direction in as little as 1/2 an hour.  Sometimes it's timing, who knows, lol.

JUST KEEP PLUGGIN"!! :)

I call what you see "CRUISERS." The hardest bass for me to catch. If they see you they usually won't bite. The only thing I've found that works on them, and only rarely, is to throw a rapala as far off as you can (where they can't see you), but in the path they are traveling as they swim back and forth. Jerk it slowly. Good luck.

I experienced the same thing recently.  I plugged away all day with T-rigged plastics, jigs, slow rolling spinners fishing the in the grass.  I had caught a few on a jerk bait on rip rap points.  I threw the jerk bait and the bank that dropped off to the submerged grass just to see, I got hung up and frustrated I just ripped the jerk bait out of the top of the grass and started craking in so I could cast again, then bam!  Ah Ha I thought to myself.  I swicthed to a bomber shallow A in baby bass and a steady retrieve..  Killed em the rest of the day...Probably could have caught 50 that day if I had figured it out sooner...  So try shallow crankin over the submerged grass...

When they are cruising around it is super hard to get them interested in biting anything. They've got something else on their pea brains and feeding isn't it.

That's when you learn to sit back and observe.  Watching them can be pretty cool in itself.

lol i go to this lake when it was like just after spawn and the bass are extremly shallow and like all 1lbers lol but they just swim in and around there beds not moving much and all i do is drop a senk 5 feet of shore and get a fish and it looked they were staring at me lol i guess these bass are not cruising like the ones u saw

Thanks guys I'll go back soon andI hope I get at least one strike. Maybe It'll change soon I hope before I leave. If anyone knows what to do let me know ok. Do you think a rattle or spinning bait would be good in this situation?

Great advice. Those fish are uncatchable, but fun to watch. If you are just totally focused on fishing and don't want to lay back, move on. Those fish are not a high percentage target.

I've seen some clips of fish jumping in the boat; that's the only way it can be explained.

What everyone has already said.  If the fish are just cruising along back and forth in plain site, it's next to impossible to get them to bite.  (Very) occassionally, I might intice one to suck in a small reallistic minnow bait but that's definately the exception rather than the rule.

Try some Berkley Chigger Craws weightless. I was dealing with some cruisers last week. Wouldn't hit anything. Than I rigged up some of the Powerbait Craws and did what Zel said....tossed them parallel to shore but far enough where they couldn't see me. Pulled a couple fish out. Probably wasn't the powerbait scent but when in doubt the powerbait comes through a good amount of the time for me.

Just keep throwing lines if you have the time to mess with em.
