Finding fish

Featured Replies

How can you tell that there are fish in a pond? i was driving around today looking around a neighborhood, when i come upon two ponds they looked like they were man made ponds. i thought to myself, hell their could be some fish in there so i threw it out there a couple of times. i didnt get any nibbles or bites, but i was wondering if there was any way you can tell by looking at it if there are any fish in it.

Nope.

You can just "go fishing" and find out after a few outings, but if you want to narrow your seach, find out when the pond was built and if it was stocked. Otherwise, until you have fished a pond enough to know where they never are, every inch of shoreline holds possibility.

I recently discovered a "secret pond" just minutes from my house. It's surrounded by a new neighborhood, but the water itself is part of a ten year old city park. Over the last three weeks I've caught forty-three bass, all but four were 5 lbs or better. All but one caught on jigs, the exception was 7-8 lbs caught on my first morning outing on a Cavitron Buzzbait.

BTW, the pond doesn't look "interesting".
