Are the big fish still here.

Featured Replies

Ok I fish in this pond and the first 3 times we fished there we caught a lot of nice 14-16 inch bass .But the last 2 times we have been there we have caught a lot of small tiny bass and no big ones. Does this mean that there are no more big fish or there are just a lot harder to catch? The pond is a really small.

All depends on the time of year, time of day and how much the pond gets fished. What are you fishing with?

Also, if the pond gets fished a lot and you are throwing the same type of bait as everyone else the bigger fish probably won't be so offering to eat something they see everyday.

Also could depend on technique and how you present your bait.

ok well the lures i use there consist of spinerbaits, buzzbaits and weightless texas rigged worms.

Could it be that the bigger fish are being caught and taken home ?

well the first 2 times we went we kept them but the 3rd time we let them go.

Well keeping them is part of your problem. Can't catch fish that aren't there. Try throwing something else for a change. Instead of a buzzbait early, throw maybe a Pop-R. Instead of a Texas rigged worm, maybe throw a senko or a fluke. Instead of a spinnerbait, throw maybe a crankbait. If day after day you ate the same thing and it hurt your stomach, you'd stop eating it. Fish are the same way.

X3 or they have moved out away from the area you are able to reach from shore.

Is it a public pond? You way not be the only one taking home fish.

It is a private pond we are the only ones aloud to fish there. and this pond realy small i could cast to the other side.

If the pond is that small the the OBVIOUS reason is that you kept the fish. Of cource they are not in there, YOU TOOK THEM OUT!!!!!! hello.

Now that doesnt mean you took them all out but when a pond is that small it can be fished out in 2 or 3 trips. If there are some bigger fish left you will most likely need to change your aproach. If they were biting a buzzbait but now they are not use a different topwater bait. If they were hitting a big worm use a jig or a smaller worm. Use something similar that worked before but chang it a little. Small ponds can get edjucated realy fast.

If you fished this tiny pond twice and caught "a lot" of fish and kept them you most likely fished the pond out. Leave it alone and hope you didnt completely destroy the population. You may need to stock it.
