Hey all, my name is Dylan and im 13 years old. I love to fish, i fish for bass everyday. Smallmouth or Large, it doesnt matter to me. My question is, what are some tips you can give about fishing mid-day hours of a hot sunny day. I know that these are extremely tough conditions to fish, but i would like to learn to fish them. I am open to any comments, please help! Thanks!!

The best time is between 10 o'clock AM and 3:00 PM.

I fish structure in deep water or immediately adjacent to deeper water.

With high sun and in the hottset parts of the day topwater bites are awesome!!!

Hey Dylan! During the middle of the day my biggest fish come from the shady areas produced by trees overhanging the water. I also like to fish tight to cover and parallel to shorelines. Welcome to the forums!

I like to find areas that have trees/brush overhanging and making shade/cover and skip plastic underneath and in the pockets.

 

I like to use soft plastics and jigs to fish cover both deep and shallow.

 This is what I have been doing the last few weeks. I have caught many but nothing over a pound and a half. The last time I was out I was doing this on a hot day at the local lake, again caught  a few small ones. We headed for the dock for a small break and I was watching these two guys throwing crankbaits in about 10 foot of water right out in the open. I saw one catch a 3 1/2 pounder and not 2 minutes latere the other caught a 5 pounder! I then went over the area after they left it with my fish finder. I saw no structure or chanels. So ya just never know! I hope to go back this week and give the crankbaits a shot there. I'll let ya know how it worked. Also if ya can get around a dock and toss some plastic at it your bound to catch one hide'n up under there.. Good luck and let us know what worked for ya.

But during mid day i like to try and fish areas where there's a lot of shade or over hangs near the water or very weedy areas.

Deeper humps, ridges, pond dams, river or creek channels 12-30. Thick matted grass if any available. With frogs, worms, or plastics of your choice, jigs with a crawworm trailer, or DD-22 crankbaits. Good luck

HEY,i would use a c-rig just you dont know(you tie a worm hook on and about 2ft down the line put a weight i like 2 use splitshot)

WOW if I fished where you do I'd never take off my chug bug ;D!

So far this year I've had good numbers with crankbaits in the 10-15ft depth along flooded timber. I've also had some good numbers with senkos along shady rock drop offs.

I just tried out your tactics today, it was 1:30ish and i was fishing a spinner bait in the shady area of a tree over-hanging the water, immediately adjacent to a drop off to about 10 feet. I caught 3 2pounders and one 3.6 pound largemouth- thanks a lot!!

I like to throw cranks along the edge of deep ledges.  If the ledge is 12 foot deep I'll throw 14 - 16 foot deep crank and try to run it along the edge of the ledge just below the lip.  In my experience and in the lakes I fish the fish will suspend a few feet under the drop of the ledge and ambush anything silly enough to come over it or along it.  I'll deffinately catch more skipping under trees but the quality is better on the ledges or underwater brush piles.

I'll skip plastics under strees sometimes but I get just as many small fish as I do large if not more.
