Maybe this is a stupid thought but salt triggers in plastic bait,could there be some amout of slight electic stimulation caused by the plastic and salt? isnt salt a conductor? just a thought ::) So salt impregnated baits would appeal to  the fishes smell,sight,taste and lateral line,also movementent witch is visualy and laterally detected by bass. Just kind of an idea i had by reading your post.
