Fishing Software?

Recommended Posts

OK so I have gone through the links provided for fishing software. I am not too impressed by what these companies have to offer. Most of the software has an old windows 95 look and feel. Some also have a ridiculous price for what they are offering. Most are crowded with options on one page and not a nice guide you as you go type GUI.

I have a few questions:

  • Do you use any fishing related software (excluding games)?
  • What would you be looking for in software? (expert system, tournament management, tackle tracking, something not already done)
  • Do you feel the same about the problems listed above (ugly, cluttered, pricey)?

I have also seen websites that offer what some of these programs offer. I don't know about you, but I don't have internet when I am out on the water so they seem pointless to me.

So basically I saw the software section on the links page and wondered what fishermen use software for. :-?

IMO you could spend a lifetime going through this site to educate yourself. Between the forum and the articles, NO stone has been left unturned.

Oddly enough, I was just thinking today how nice it would be to have all the articles on the site available on my iPhone, so that I could access them even without an internet connection, or cell service.  I've seen apps like this from some other non-fishing sites, so I know it's possible.  How about it Glenn?  I'd pay for an app like this.

I agree with the OP, I would like to have a fishing software that does all this as well.

I would also buy an app for my Iphone for this, but I doubt there is enough demand.

So any ideas on something new you would like to see or use besides a collection of articles on your iphone. Or just a better polished version of the other applications all tied into one.

I was thinking of a better expert system than the one found in the software links. Maybe one using all the valuable information the users here at bassresource.com have contributed. Something like this would allow you to fill in information about the situation and the application would let you know what the bassresource community would suggest when the internet is not available.

That usually works pretty good until you start getting older and you start running out of memory. Restarting your brain doesn't sound like fun. :D

Going to what I know...if you can pull together all the features and such. The personalization, meta data for your various data points, search ability, I think you could utilize the capability in some common portal products like WSS or MOSS (once again I live in the MS world), and come up with something really slick. Their are probably more than a few portal technologies out there that would fit the bill, the real differentiators would

be in the features you are starting to put together there.

I've been accused of being "soft" in the head.

Software sounds good, but I just print out all the articles I would like to have, laminate them and stick them in my fishing log book.  That way they are there for quick and easy reference and I don't have to worry about them getting ruined.

Later, :)

book...book...oh yeah! Those paper thingies everyone used before computers and the internet. I remember. Aren't those heavy? LOL.

Kidding...I work with computers all day long and given the choice I like the feel of a book or printed document over the electronic version any day.
